Monthly Free Report February - Melting of Glaciers in Nepal |
---|
by Sagar Koirala | 10-02-2023 15:54 0 |
The vast majority of glaciers on Earth, including the greatest number of glacial ice fields, are found in Nepal's Himalayan area. Since they are the source of numerous mountain streams and rivers that are vital to Nepal's hydroelectric infrastructure and provide water for cultivation and drinking, these glaciers are of utmost significance to the country. The glaciers in Nepal are melting at an alarming rate due to global warming, which is harming the country's ecology and economy. Global warming has hastened the melting of glaciers in Nepal in recent years. There is less glacial ice in the Himalayas as a result of warmer temperatures causing the snowpack that forms the glaciers to melt more quickly. This is especially true for the Khumbu Glacier, which has been losing an estimated 1.5 meters of ice annually since 1962 and is situated close to the base of Mount Everest. The Dudh Koshi, Langtang, and Imja glaciers in Nepal, among others, are all melting quickly. A number of grave consequences for the nation and its citizens result from the melting of Nepal's glaciers. We must work together to slow down the melting of Glaciers. |
