Plastic are used for different purposes in everyday life. The demand of plastic has  increased with the growth of world¡¯s population. Waste collection is very low rate in major cities of developing countries. Only few amount of plastic are recycled or up cycled while huge amount of plastic waste are disposed in landfill site(vacant land, street sides, low lying region etc).  Plastic takes long time to degrade as it made up of molecular bonds of hydrogen, carbon and few other elements such as nitrogen, chlorine and others. Plastic waste become one of the major environment concern globally. It is necessary to develop sustainable method of recycling  to generate both environmental and economic benefits.  Recycling of plastic waste become difficult due to lack of technical knowledge, high cost, labor intensive and lack of machinery.

Pyrolysis is defined as process of utilizing heat and pressure to convert long chain polymer to small and less complex polymer. It requires intense heat for short duration in absence of oxygen. The major byproducts of pyrolysis includes oil, gas and char. proximate analysis determines the chemical properties and composition of plastic. Proximate analysis is performed on the basis of moisture content, fixed carbon, volatile matter and ash content. Increasing the content of volatile matter content increases the oil content whereas increasing its ash the content of soil decreases.

Pyrolysis is mainly useful for recovery of energy and materials. The raw materials which are generated from pyrolysis can be utilized for different industry. Circular economy mainly focus the development of business model which generate employment opportunities and profit while maintaining environmental sustainability. Pyrolysis also address the issue of GHG emission, waste management and energy consumption. The byproducts of plastic pyrolysis includes char and oil. Char can also be used as an adsorbent in water treatment to remove heavy metal through an upgrading treatment. Liquid oil can be utilized for multiple purposes such as furnace, boiler, turbine and diesel. The gas is utilize to extract for heating purposes which reduces the reliance on other external heating source. The oil and wax can be stored for long time and utilize in required time. Due to the several advantages plastic pyrolysis have potential to recycle the plastic waste for environmental sustainability.

    Hi, Dolma Diki Sherpa!
    This is your mentor, Yoon.

Thank you for introducing plastic pyrolysis technology to achieve a circular economy. As more and more plastics are consumed these days, I also believe plastic pyrolysis technology should be applied more broadly.

Great job on writing the thematic report.
I am looking forward to reading your following report!
