Free Report: GRADUATION OF UNDERGRAD LIFE

by Sandhya Adhikari | 18-02-2023 02:10 recommendations 0

First of all i apologize for late submission of my reports as i was completely stuck with my final defense symposium, had to move to new city for my post grad preparation, shifted and managed room, internet and unfortunately got a severe accident that needed a complete rest of 1 month.

December 2022, It was the month of my graduation and i am elated to share with you all that I Successfully defended Undergraduate Practium Assessment ( UPA) Research entitled " Evaluation of Elite spring wheat genotypes for spot blotch (Bipolaris sorokiniana Sacc) resistance at Bhairahawa, Nepal". Since from the start of my undergrad life, i was so much inclined towards plant health and finally i choose to conduct my research on wheat disease. The one year period of my field work, lab work as an intern, data analysis, manuscript preparation to defense was full of Learning experience. I got a chance to work under excellent scientists, conduct various research, assist my advisor on their projects. Though it was a hectic schedule but remembering all those skills that i gained makes it worthy. Here is the abstract of my research finding. I express my deepest sense of gratitude to everyone who assisted me directly and indirectly to accomplish tast at specified time period.

Spot blotch, a fungal disease of wheat incited by an anamorph Bipolaris sorokiniana Sacc. is one of the leading causes of 23-40% loss in wheat production in Nepal and up to 80% worldwide. Selection, breeding, and further evaluation of the performance of elite germplasms is an effective method for spot blotch disease management.  A field experiment was carried out at the National Wheat Research Program, Bhairahawa, Nepal in alpha lattice design with two replications from Nov 2021 to April 2022. A conidial suspension of pathogens was sprayed on wheat genotypes at a growth scale of 45-51 (Zadok¡¯s scale) in order to induce infection and sporulation. Data were obtained based on morphological traits, disease-related traits, and Area Under Disease Progress Curve (AUDPC). The statistical analysis revealed that there is a significant positive correlation between AUDPC and lesion size (0.73), lesion type (0.71), black point (0.79), leaf angle (0.66), and a significant negative correlation between AUDPC and leaf tip necrosis (-0.93), days to heading (-0.43), plant height (-0.40), SPAD (-0.46) and thousand kernel weight (-0.3). Based on AUDPC value, two genotypes viz. GAUTAM and NL 1452 were found resistant (>350) and nine genotypes viz. NL 1508, CHIRIYA 3, NL 1445, BL 4984, NL 1492, NL 1446, NL 1503, NL 1512, and NL 1504 as moderately resistant (350-480). Nine moderately susceptible genotypes and five susceptible genotypes exhibited AUDPC values 480-610 and >610 respectively. Hence the resistant genotype could be further incorporated into breeding programs as donor parents and in multilocation trials to evaluate yield potentials.
