[February thematic report] How France is Promoting Usage of Electric Vehicles |

One of the ecofriendly policies that I think is amazing is the "Zero Carbon Dioxide Environment Policy by 2050" announced by the French environment minister Nicolas Hulot on July 6th. According to this policy, the sale of diesel and gasoline cars in France will be banned from 2040. Instead, the government plans to expand support and charging networks for eco-friendly vehicles such as electric and hybrid vehicles. The French government is currently providing 10,000 euros for people who abolish their diesel vehicles that have been driven for more than 10 years to purchase electric vehicles. Also, according to the KOTRA Paris Trade Center, France passed the Climat et Resilience Act on July 20. France's energy generation program (PPE) has announced to set targets for renewable energy production, and the mandatory standards for solar panel installation and green roof installation were strengthened. In the case of commercial buildings, the standard area for solar panels or green roofs has been lowered to more than 500mm, strengthening the mandatory installation standards. The law also banned advertisements promoting fossil fuel use since 2022 and is planning to ban advertisements for cars generating more than 123 grams of CO2 per kilometer from 2028. I think that these policies can actually reduce the amount of carbon dioxide the cars had been emitting for years. The future is also bright in that the government is showing great support so that people can actually start riding electric cars. |
