[March Theme Report] Wildlife Preservation"

by Ravelomanana Rolande HANTANIAINA | 05-03-2023 02:47 recommendations 0

The world's wildlife is facing a crisis as a result of human activities such as urbanization, pollution, and energy development. This crisis not only threatens the existence of countless species but also undermines the delicate balance of ecosystems worldwide. World Wildlife Day, observed on March 3rd, serves as a reminder of the importance of wildlife preservation and conservation efforts. In this article, we will explore the current state of global wildlife and the means by which we can preserve and protect it.

Current Status of Global Wildlife:

According to recent studies, one million animal and plant species are at risk of extinction, and nearly half of all animal populations have declined since 1970. The primary threats to wildlife are habitat loss, poaching, and climate change. Rapid urbanization and the expansion of human settlements into natural areas have resulted in the loss of essential habitats for wildlife. Additionally, poaching and the illegal wildlife trade continue to threaten many species with extinction. Climate change, caused by human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels, has also contributed to the decline of wildlife populations by altering ecosystems and weather patterns.

Means of Wildlife Preservation:

To combat the threats facing global wildlife, conservation efforts are critical. One essential means of wildlife preservation is the establishment of protected areas, such as national parks and nature reserves. These protected areas provide habitats for wildlife and serve as refuges for threatened and endangered species. Conservation efforts also include the restoration of degraded habitats and the reintroduction of endangered species into their natural habitats. Additionally, efforts to combat poaching and the illegal wildlife trade are crucial for preserving wildlife populations.

Effects of Energy Development on Wildlife and Surrounding Environment:

The development of energy resources has significant impacts on wildlife and their habitats. For example, oil and gas drilling can result in the destruction of critical habitats, pollution of air and water, and the displacement of wildlife. Wind turbines and solar farms can also have adverse impacts on wildlife, such as bird and bat mortality. However, there are ways to mitigate these impacts, such as selecting sites for renewable energy projects that avoid critical habitats and conducting thorough environmental impact assessments before development.

Wildlife Preservation in Urban Environments:

Wildlife can coexist with humans even in urbanized areas, and there are ways to promote this coexistence. Urban green spaces, such as parks and gardens, can provide essential habitats for wildlife, and cities can also implement measures to reduce light pollution and noise pollution. Additionally, urban planning can incorporate wildlife-friendly features such as green roofs, wildlife crossings, and wildlife-friendly building designs.

To Conclude, preserving global wildlife is crucial for maintaining the delicate balance of ecosystems and ensuring the survival of countless species. On this World Wildlife Day, let us remember the importance of wildlife preservation and conservation efforts. By taking action to protect and preserve wildlife, we can ensure a sustainable future for both humans and the natural world.

Hi, this is your mentor Yewon!
    Nice to meet you:)

Thank you for your stunning report! You have explained the current status of wildlife and several ways to protect wildlife. I liked the part you explained the current status of wildlife with exact study results and numbers! Overall, your report was convenient to understand and well organized!

Also, I agree with your opinion that we should find more ways to coexist with animals in urban. I have seen a building that had a green space at the top of the building so that not only wildlife can live there but also people can take a rest! I think that can be a good way to protect wildlife in urban.

Thank you again for your great work!

Hello Ravelomanana! This is your mentor James.

Your report is so clean, concise, and well-structured! I had no difficulties at all reading and understanding your points. What a great job.

You have well stated the unfortunate status of current global wildlife. I agree that the main causes of this devastation are deforestation, overexploitation, and natural disasters. I also concur with your methods of preserving wildlife! It is certainly crucial to do so, and I find it interesting that you have discussed how to preserve wildlife along with energy development!

Overall, you have well explained the importance of why and how we should protect wildlife. And also thanks for the shoutout to World Wildlife Day!

I can't wait to read your following articles. Good work!
