Air pollution refers to the release of pollutants into the air, pollutants which are detrimental to human health and the planet as a whole. CURRENT STATUS OF OUR ATMOSPHERE What's in Air? by volume, the dry air in the Earth's Atmosphere is about 78.08 percent nitrogen, 20.95 percent oxygen, 0.93 Argon. A brew of trace gases accounts for the others approximately 0.04percent, including the green house gases carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and ozone. CHANGE OF AIR QUALITY OVERTIME The weather can have a significant impact on air quality since different aspects of the weather affects the amounts of ozone and particulates that are present in a specific area. sunshine, rain, higher temperatures, windspeed, air tumbulence and mixing depths all affects pollutants concentration The current PM 2.5 Concentration in Nigeria is 1.1 times above the recommended limit given by the WHO 24hrs air quality guidelines value. there is a good reason to worry about the air quality in Nigeria as it's rank 152th out of 180 countries at the Environmental protection index for air quality. MEANS OF LOWERING POLLUTANTS AND OTHERS RELATED TECHNOLOGIES Incinerators, gravitational settings Chambers, electrostatic, precipators, cyclone separators, selective catalytic reduction systems, fabric filters, bio filters and scrubbers are technologies used as a means of lowering pollutants. CARBON EMISSION Carbon Emission is released into the atmosphere often human activity such as the burning of fossil fuels such as coal or gas. Excess carbon in the atmosphere warms the planet and helps plants on land grow more. Excess carbon in the ocean makes the water more acidic putting marine life in danger. Example of carbon emission, we produce green house emissions from burning gasoline when we drive, burning oil or gas from home heating, or using electricity generated from coal, natural gas and oil. Greenhouse gas emissions vary among individuals depending on a person's location ,habits and personal choices. Globally, the primary sources of green house emissions are electricity and heat 31 %, agriculture 11%, transportation 15%, forestry 6% and manufacturing 12%. TYPE OF AIR POLLUTION SULFUR DIOXIDE This emission comes from power generating plants, very little comes from mobile sources and some from fossil-fuel combustion, it is accepted 0.053ppm (I year period), it has an environmental risk by damage to foilage, contributes to smog formation, health risks include inflammation and irritation of breathing passages. Sulfur dioxide is a colourless gas with a pungent colour, that is readily soluble in water. it is predominantly derived from the combustion of fossil fuels, it is one of the most common type of air pollutants. TECHNOLOGIES REGARDING AIR FILTERS AND AIR CAPTURE RESEARCH There are two types of air purifying technologies, active and passive. Active air purifiers release negativity charged ions into air, causing pollutants to stick to surfaces, while passive air purification unit use air filters to remove pollutants. Air capture technologies extra Co2 directly from the atmosphere. The Co2 can be permanently stored in deep geological formations thereby achieving carbon dioxide removal. CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING Global warming is the phenomenon of gradual increase in the average temperature of Earth. it's caused by the release of green house gases like carbon dioxide, methane, CFCS etc into the atmosphere. Deforestation is a loading cause of global warming as it enables more carbon dioxide to remain suspended in the atmosphere. it reduces the number of trees, volcanic eruption, methane gas are also natural causes of global warming, mining, cattle rearing, fossil fuel burning and more are man made causes of global warming.

Hello Odigie! This is your mentor Yewon.
To begin with, I want to say sorry for the late comment.
You have written a report about several topics regarding air pollution. I want to focus on means of lowering pollutants as you mentioned several technologies that can affect air pollution, and I wonder how those technologies contribute to relieve air pollution!
Your report is proposing diverse topics we have to think about regarding air pollution. I hope there will be animated discussion regarding these topics! Thank you for your great report!

Hello Odigie! This is your mentor James.
I see that you have tackled all topics that I have suggested in my email! Well done.
I appreciate the fact that you have mentioned sulfur dioxide emission for other types of air pollution. SOx emissions result in acid rain, respiratory issues, and other health related problems. Sulfur oxides are usually emitted from combustion power plants since significant amount of sulfur is included in fossil fuels. Thus it is important to lower the use of coal and oil for electricity generation.
Thank you for your report! Keep up the good work!
