<Climate Change> April Free Report About The Lebanese Action To Mitigate Climate Change

by Tarek Harb | 13-04-2023 18:32 recommendations 0

Greeting From Lebanon,

The Lebanese government and non-governmental organizations have made some efforts to lessen the effects of climate change, but their actions have been modest and remain insufficient. One of the nations most susceptible to climate change is the little nation of Lebanon, which is situated in the Eastern Mediterranean. Effective climate policies are difficult to put into place because to the geography, economics, and political unrest of the nation.

The National Climate Change Committee, which the Lebanese government established, is in charge of coordinating climate change initiatives across several sectors. The committee is made up of officials from numerous government departments; however, due to a lack of funding and political will, it has not been able to do much. Lebanon has also filed its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). According to the INDC, Lebanon wants to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% from current levels by 2030.

These objectives haven't, however, been turned into actual activities. The nation continues to largely rely on fossil fuels to meet its energy demands because the government has not put any meaningful policies or regulations in place to limit greenhouse gas emissions. High levels of private automobile use are also a result of unreliable public transportation infrastructure, which worsens the nation's carbon footprint.

In conclusion, although the Lebanese government and NGOs have made some attempts to lessen the effects of climate change, they have not been able to keep up with the issue's urgency. Lebanon needs a comprehensive policy that encompasses all facets of society, such as the private sector and civil society, to effectively combat climate change. The government must take more decisive action to cut greenhouse gas emissions and promote the use of renewable energy sources, while NGOs want greater funding and assistance to carry out climate change initiatives.

Hello Tarek! This is your mentor Yewon.

Before I start, I want to apologize for the late comment.

You have shared Lebanese actions to mitigate climate change! As climate change is very sensitive issue to all countries over the world, many countries are trying to take action to overcome it. However, it is difficult to practice them as the actions might disturb economic growth. Nonetheless, as you claimed in your report, it is important to practice specific activities for our future, so I hope Lebanese government and NGOs should realize the urgent need of policies to combat climate change.

Thank you for sharing your opinion with us. Great work!
