[APRIL THEMATIC REPORT] CAUSES, EFFECT AND HOW TO SOLVE AIR POLLUTION IN THE ATMOSPHERE

by Godfred Owusu | 15-04-2023 23:34 recommendations 1

Any alterations to the atmosphere—physical, chemical, or biological—are referred to as air pollution. Plants, animals, and people are all severely impacted by the air pollution caused by toxic gases, dust, and smoke. In the atmosphere, certain gases make up a given amount. Survival is harmed by an alteration in the content of these gases. Global warming is the outcome of the imbalance in the gaseous composition, which has caused an increase in the earth's temperature.

Air pollution is caused by different mechanisms. And some of these are as follows:
First and foremost, large pieces of machinery are used in the mining operation to remove the minerals from underneath the earth. In addition to polluting the air, the dust and chemicals emitted throughout the operation also harm the workers' and the residents' health.

Secondly, emission from factories and industries. The main supplier of carbon monoxide, organic compounds, hydrocarbons, and chemicals is industry and manufacturing. These are dispersed into the atmosphere, lowering the quality of it.

Furthermore, emission from automobiles. Vehicle emissions, including those from trucks, cars, buses, and jeeps, harm the environment. These are the main producers of greenhouse gases, and they also make people sick.
All these causes of air pollution have direct effect on human being and the environment. Below are some of the effects of air pollution to our environment:
To begin with, global warming. There is an imbalance in the gaseous composition of the air as a result of the release of greenhouse gases. The earth's temperature has risen because of this. Global warming is the term used to describe this rise in earth's temperature. As a result, glaciers are melting, and the sea level is rising. There are many undersea locations.

Again, air pollution causes diseases. Humans have developed a number of respiratory conditions and heart ailments as a result of air pollution. Over the past few decades, there has been an upsurge in lung cancer cases. Children who live close to polluted environments are more likely to get asthma and pneumonia. Each year, many individuals pass away as a result of air pollution, either directly or indirectly.

In addition, ozone layer depletion. The main factor contributing to the ozone layer's depletion is the emission of hydrochlorofluorocarbons, halons, and chlorofluorocarbons into the atmosphere. People develop skin ailments and eye issues as a result of the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays, which the ozone layer's loss cannot stop.
With the above causes, which lead to effect on the environment and human as well can be tackle on the following ways;

First, the use public nodes/ transport other than private means of moving from one place to another and use of automobiles for shorter distances should be avoided. Instead, they ought to Favour using public transportation to get from one location to another. In addition to reducing pollution, this also saves electricity.

Last but not least, conservation of energy can also help to reduce air pollution in the atmosphere. A large number of fossil fuels are burnt to generate electricity. Therefore, do not forget to switch off the electrical appliances when not in use. Thus, you can save the environment at the individual level. Use of energy-efficient devices such as CFLs also controls pollution to a greater level.

In conclusion, air pollution has impact on our environment and the use of public transport will serve as an instrument to reduce automobile emission rather than using personal automobiles.

Hello Godfred! This is your mentor Yewon.
I apologize for the late comment.

In this report, you have written a wonderful report about the air pollution problem, including several topics closely related to air pollution.
Especially, ozone layer depletion was quite impressive, in terms of the complexity of matters that contribute to ozone layer depletion!

Your report is so well-organized so that I could easily understand your message!
Thank you for your meaningful report!

Hello Godfred! This is your mentor James.

You have focused on the critical consequences of air pollution. Among those, global warming is certainly a key problem to us all. Lowering emission of carbon and other GHGs is one of the significant steps that the global society has to take in order to restore the atmosphere we once knew. Also, we have to capture air pollutants that has already been emitted in the past, thus lowering its atmospheric concentration. Currently these two steps are being taken simultaneously, and I hope it soon becomes our society's first priority.

    Thanks for your report!
