Amazon Rainforest: the richness of Brazilian ecosystems |

I imagine that many of you have heard of the Amazon biome or the Amazon rainforest, a beautiful space that contains the largest rainforest in the world and is considered one of the most valuable natural assets on Earth. This giant forest is located on Brazilian territory - for the most part - in the northern part of the country, as well as being present in other South American countries. . By the way, did you know that September 5th is Amazon Day? . And here is a curiosity about it: the date refers to the day when D. Pedro II created the province of Amazonas, back in 1850. I think it's great to have a date to celebrate the importance of the biome and raise awareness about its preservation and care. Above all, it is worth pointing out that every day we should celebrate, care for, and give thanks for the existence not only of the Amazon biome, but of all those that are present on our planet! . And, of course, I cannot fail to highlight the main points of this cradle of biodiversity, which is home to so much life. The Amazon Rainforest guarantees rainfall for a good part of South America, has in its flora an enormous medicinal potential, and also plays a central role in the fight against global warming and climate change. Above all, it is home to the world's largest river basin and is also considered the most diverse set of ecosystems!
. However, unfortunately, the risk of extinction of numerous species in the Amazon Rainforest is increasing, where some of the main causes are: environmental imbalance, soil, air and water pollution, the worrying animal trafficking and the loss or fragmentation of habitats. And typical animals of the biome such as the pink river dolphin, the jaguar, the capuchin monkey and the Amazon manatee are endangered. . So to get around this problem, the creation and management of conservation units such as national parks are important strategies to protect the biodiversity of the Amazon region. In addition, there are currently 287 conservation units spread over more than 100 million hectares. And I am hoping that this number will increase! . Remembering: we can say that ecosystems are groups of living beings that live in a certain place and interact with each other and with the environment, forming a stable system. And right below I will highlight the three main ecosystems of the biome: The dryland forests are the largest part of the forest and is where we find the giant trees that we usually relate to the Amazon. . Várzea forests are forests that are only flooded during a certain time of the year. . Like the várzeas, the igapó forests also fall into the category of flooded forests in the Amazon, but they are permanently flooded! . So, what did you think of this biome and its ecosystems? . . . |

Hello again Yngrid! This is your mentor Yewon.
Before I start, I apologize for the late comment.
You have written a report about the Amazon rainforest and its environmental value!
I have heard that there is huge biodiversity, and I hope that Amazon could be home to those species forever!
Thank you for your meaningful report! Great job!

Hello again Yngrid! This is your mentor James.
Again, terribly sorry for the late comment!
Indeed, I have heard about the majestic Amazon forest and its enriched biodiversity. No wonder it's known as the lungs of Earth. Thus, it is saddening to hear that our very "lungs" are being cut down and diminishing due to our own activities. Reduction of biodiversity, desertification, air pollution, climate change are all consequences of indiscriminate deforestation and habitat destruction. Thus, raising public awareness, like you are doing right now, is crucially needed for protection.
Thanks for writing such a meaningful report! Let's keep up the good work.
