Green infrastructure development offers a promising solution by integrating natural elements into urban spaces, promoting environmental sustainability, and improving the overall quality of life. Here we explore the significance of green infrastructure in urban environments and highlights its positive impact on various aspects of sustainability. Firstly, Enhancing Urban Biodiversity. Green infrastructure provides vital habitats for diverse plant and animal species, supporting urban biodiversity. By incorporating parks, green spaces, and urban forests, cities can create interconnected ecosystems that foster biodiversity, promote pollination, and provide refuge for wildlife. Such habitats contribute to ecological balance, enhance urban resilience, and create opportunities for educational and recreational activities. Secondly, Mitigating Urban Heat Island Effect. Urban areas often experience higher temperatures due to the heat island effect caused by extensive concrete and asphalt surfaces. Green infrastructure counteracts this effect by incorporating vegetation that provides shade, reduces surface temperatures, and cools the surrounding environment. Trees, green roofs, and vertical gardens mitigate heat, improving thermal comfort, reducing energy consumption for cooling, and mitigating the adverse health effects of extreme heat. Thirdly, Improving Air Quality. Urban areas often suffer from poor air quality due to pollution from vehicles, industry, and other human activities. Lastly, Enhancing Urban Well-being. Green infrastructure has a significant positive impact on the well-being of urban residents. Access to green spaces, such as parks and community gardens, promotes physical activity, reduces stress, and improves mental health. Green environments contribute to increased social cohesion, providing spaces for social interaction, community gatherings, and recreational activities. Additionally, the aesthetic value of green infrastructure enhances the overall livability and attractiveness of urban areas. In conclusion, Green infrastructure development is a key component of sustainable urban planning. By integrating natural elements into urban environments, cities can create more resilient, healthier, and livable spaces. Green infrastructure not only enhances biodiversity, mitigates the urban heat island effect, and manages stormwater runoff but also improves air quality and promotes the well-being of urban residents. Green infrastructure is surely a key field of study that should be developed in order to achieve a sustainable environment within urban areas. Adding onto the air purification capability, I would also like to emphasize the improvement of social interaction and a healthier lifestyle that green architecture may bring upon our society! I wonder if Malaysia has some examples of green infrastructure!

I especially agree with the point of urban biodiversity. Usually, urban areas lack enough space for various plants and animals, so there is low biodiversity. I think we should try to enhance biodiversity by building up diverse eco-systems where animals and plants can habit.
