In this week of biodiversity conservation, I thought it would be appropriate to write my free May report on biodiversity conservation in Cameroon. Cameroon is a country located in Central Africa that is rich in biodiversity, with a variety of ecosystems ranging from rainforests to savannas. However, like many countries in the world, Cameroon is facing various threats to its biodiversity, including deforestation, poaching, illegal wildlife trade, and climate change. To address these threats and promote biodiversity conservation in Cameroon, the government has implemented various laws and policies, such as the establishment of protected areas, the promotion of sustainable land use practices, and the strengthening of law enforcement efforts against illegal activities. Some statistics on biodiversity conservation in Cameroon are: 1. Protected areas: Cameroon has established 34 protected areas covering a total area of 8,559,690 hectares, which represents approximately 9.8% of the country's land area. 2. Species richness: Cameroon is home to more than 9,000 plant species, 903 bird species, 316 mammal species, and 271 reptile species, making it one of the most biodiverse countries in Africa. 3. Threatened species: According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), there are 137 threatened species in Cameroon, including 23 critically endangered species, 40 endangered species, and 74 vulnerable species. 4. Wildlife trade: Cameroon is a major source and transit country for illegal wildlife trade, particularly for ivory and pangolin scales. Between 2012 and 2018, Cameroon seized over 8.5 tons of ivory and more than 17 tons of pangolin scales. 5. Forest cover: Cameroon has experienced significant deforestation in recent years, with forest cover declining from 22.9 million hectares in 1990 to 16.4 million hectares in 2020. Overall, while Cameroon has made significant efforts to promote biodiversity conservation, more needs to be done to address the various threats facing the country's rich biodiversity. |

Hello Jean!! This is your mentor James.
First of all, sorry for the late comment!
In this report, you've focused on active government engagement in preserving wildlife and biodiversity in Cameroon along with some super interesting statistics! I didn't know that almost 10% of the Cameroon territory is officially protected reserves. What great news! However, it still saddens me to hear that illegal hunting and trading of animal parts are still prevailing in some areas. I hope efficient legislation would be carried out to protect those endangered species.
Thanks for writing such a meaningful report! Great work.

Hello Jean! This is your mentor Yewon.
You have written a very informative report about biodiversity in Cameroon!
The statistics you showed in your report, including the number of specific species and forest cover, were very interesting and reliable!
I think that giving detailed statistics about something is better than longer descriptions sometimes.
Thank you for sharing information about biodiversity in Cameroon with us.
Great job!!
