[May thematic report] The advantage for the cistern construction in the city

Now the weather is changing rapidly, and it also seems inevitable, many countries around the world are starting to research how to adapt the extreme weather which is the getting the most important environment topic.

Taiwan is in a subtropical region with a humid climate. Although Taiwan is surrounded by the ocean, there are many mountainous in this island. It is about 70% of total land area which is leading to limited availability of natural water sources. Not mention that the seasonal rainfall distribution is uneven. So, I would like to describe that water management would be very important in Taiwan, particularly for the construction of cisterns.

When I was a child, I lived in Linkou district where has a relatively higher number of parks. It provides the citizens can enjoy the green environment and have a lot of space to do the exercise. I still remembering my dad often took me to played sports or rollerblade in these parks. The original city planning has notice that Linkou is located at the table land which are not easy to keep the water, so they design many cisterns under these parks. I think it would be a clever idea and try to list the advantages point below:

1. Flood regulation and disaster prevention:
Taiwan often affects by the typhoons and heavy rain during the summer, the cisterns can help to regulate the water and slow down the occurrence of
flood.

2. Friendly to the Environment and ecology:
The construction of cisterns could provide a friendly place for ecological and environments. They can serve as habitats for wild animals, like bird and squirrels. Furthermore, the surrounding areas of cisterns can be a park or green yard, providing a comfortable an leisure spaces for the people and
improving the urban environmental quality.

3. Water resource management and conservation:
Reservoir construction will help in effective management and utilization of water resources. It can collect store rainwater, reducing reliance on groundwater and other water sources. Additionally, cisterns can be used for water recycling and reuse. This contributes to water conservation, improves the efficiency and sustainability of water resources. Especially for the densely populated urban area, the water not only can be reuse for the domestic water but also the industrial water.

Overall, the construction of cisterns in the cities of unstable water resource supply, flood disasters, and water resource management, while also providing benefits for ecological preservation and

Hello Jing Yuan Huang! This is your mentor Yewon.

Before I start, I want to say sorry for the late comment.

In this report, you have introduced the cistern construction in the city! I haven't known about it before, so it was very interesting to read your report!
You have mentioned three big advantages of cistern construction, and I want to focus on water resource management!
Since many countries are facing water problems, I think this can be a good alternative!

Thank you for your great report! Let's keep up the good work!

Hello Jing Yuan Huang! This is your mentor James.

This is the first time I've heard about the term "cistern"! After reading your report, I definitely support your opinion regarding building cisterns in urban areas of Taiwan! As you've mentioned, effective designation and implementation of cisterns in urban areas with unstable water supply would not only prevent flooding, but also supplement the urban population with usable rainwater! But in order to achieve this win-win situation, those cisterns should be constructed where transportation networks are undisturbed and connections with the sewage system is possible!

Thank you for your fantastic work! Let's keep it up with your next report as well.
