Ecological problems in Almaty, Kazakhstan |

Almaty is the largest and one of the most beautiful city in Kazakhstan with a population of more than 2 million, surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Almaty literally means city of apple trees and because of it's relatively mild climate , it has a wide range of apple trees.
P.S: A little advertisement for attracting travelers ◝(ᵔᵕᵔ)◜ Despite than Almaty is facing ecological problem include air pollution, solid waste disposal and unplanned urban development. Let's talk about each topic step by step. Air pollution and unplanned urban development. These 2 things are interconnected with each other. As i mentioned Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan and as a fact we a lot of people driving cars ,which is a cause of air pollution, this is a first reason of air pollution. We do have public transport as a subway and buses, but subway limited and can reach some part of cities. People still prefer drive a car instead taking buses , and i can understand people, because of due to poor road infrastructure , traffic jams often occur and people wait for hours on the road , and this buses not sufficient of quantity ,people are feeling in these buses as feels like a fish in a can. The second reason is due power station ,which is heating our homes from autumn until beginning of spring. To heat homes, the power station burns coal to provide warmth. As a result , it emits a significant amount of harmful substances in the atmosphere, which is also very harmful to health. Last reason of air pollution is when people at private homes burning everything to heat their homes. It can be coal, gas, woods or even plastic (｡•́︿•̀｡). When there is windy weather , typically all this smog gets blown away, and air becomes clean. However, since Almaty is surrounded by mountains , the smog remains as a sediment in the city. Solid waste disposal. In Kazakhstan, there are recycle waste centers for recycling waste . This means that you have to sort your waste yourself and bring it to centers, which usually located far from home. Almost all householders with garbage bins lack of special containers for waste sorting. Many people dispose of their waste without sorting, which ends up in the landfill, where either accumulates or gets incinerated. Reading this article makes you sad, but I'm pleased in inform you, situation is getting better. Day by day more people are realizing the importance of the environment and how to contribute to save environment. More people started sorting their waste and brining it to recycling centers. Power station is going to switch to gas instead of coil, this will decrease air pollution 10 times. Public transport are developing and reaching a lot of places. (◡ ‿ ◡ .)
