Friends of the Seven Lakes Foundation (FSLF) Meeting

by Bam Azores | 16-11-2013 23:45 recommendations 0

My family lives in San Pablo City, Philippines which is also called the City of the Seven Lakes because we have seven volcanic crater lakes within the area of our city. Through the years as our population grew the lakes also became more polluted. It was because of this that the Friends of the Seven Lakes Foundation (FSLF) was established in 2000.

In the year 2003 the FSLF Kids was created for young kids. I was only 6 years old at that time and joined the first big rally to make the people aware. We got 8000 people to hold hands around the 3.8 kilometers of road around Sampaloc Lake which is the biggest lake of all. The FSLF Kids grew to 100+ members and while the students were growing we had to establish the FSLF Youth for high school kids. We are an active group and have a site www.fslfkidsandyouth.webs.com.

Last night, I joined a meeting of the FSLF and told them about some of our projects. I told our older members about our sachet recovery project that started in 2010 and that is now adopted by the biggest public school in our city as their own project. I reported about the Greeneration Summit that we will attend on November 25.

The Greeneration Summit: Gathering of Youth Empowerment for Climate Change is a yearly thing. This year the President of the Philippines is the opening speaker. We are bringing the officers of the 14 public high schools in our city and also members of the FSLF Youth.

Last night, the FSLF members talked about how our new City Mayor is very supportive of our projects to protect the environment. They also talked about a big meeting they will have to discuss a Master Plan for the lakes. I hope I can join that meeting too.

By the way, the seven lakes are (1) Sampaloc Lake, (2) Mojicap Lake, (3) Palakpakin Lake, (4) Pandin Lake, (5) Yambo Lake, (6) Bunot Lake and (7) Kalibato Lake.
