Which one is better for the environment, operating nuclear power plants or not operating nuclear power plants?

Nuclear power Operating: The world?s needs for energy are growing. The population of the world is expected to be more than 9 billion by mid 21st century, 30 percent more than that of 2012. To maintain the higher standard of living, developing countries require increases in energy consumption.

Global power consumption by mid 21st century will reach 2~4 times what it is today. Until then, the global village will have to substitute old power plants, including nuclear power plants. Such demand for new power sources must be resolved. At the same time, we will have to lessen global warming effects and minimize pollution. How can we reach this goal?

By using wind, tidal, and solar power, we are not ready to reach this goal. Charcoal, gas, and oil are polluting the earth greatly and releasing carbon dioxides, which is contributing to global warming. Under this situation, we cannot give up nuclear power totally. The closedown of one nuclear reactor must be linked to the new construction of alternative energy sources, but how can we deal with this abruptly? Fukushima happened in not safely enhanced features. We have no choice but to depend on nuclear power sources until we need all the electricity sources we can come by

Not Nulcear power operating: Nuclear power is the most expensive technological failure. Recent Fukushima nuclear power reactor meltdown, Three Mile Island, and Chernobyl and Fukushima show the negative and harmful effects of nuclear power. In addition, we have to preserve spent radioactive materials in safe places until our descendants find a solution to dealing with them. Solar, tidal, geothermal, hydro, wind, and other forms of alternative energy sources can be a good substitute for nuclear power, because they are clean, safe, cheap, and fast to build and maintain. Plus, they release no radioactive waste. Such alternative sources guarantees safeness, efficiency, and environmental conservation. So I firmly believe now is the time to be faced with reality and get out of the nuclear energy trap: nuclear power can save the planet and conserve our environment.

Yes, you made a good point Rohith! Process to make the nuclear fuel can be also used to make nuclear weapons. Also we can not ignore the danger of nuclear explosion like Fukushima, Japan.

I very much agree with you. Nuclear Power has also wrongly been used by developed countries as a symbol of power. Progress and power is not only nuclear power - it is more importantly an overall sustainable development that matters.

I agree with your opinion ;^) yeah! We have to think about "after the expiration of a nuclear power plant, what we have to do to close it safely" too.
