'Do not use harmful pesticides, they ruin our lives'  was the slogan of the street drama organized on December 5, 2013 in Chaubis Koti, Chitwan, Nepal by District Agricultural Development Office (DADO), Chitwan as the celebration of the pesticides free or IPM (Integrated Pest Management) week in Nepal. The drama was technically supported by Shrijana IPM School, Rampur, Chitwan. The main objective of the drama was to make people aware of the negative impacts of the pesticides on the health and the environment.
Being a student and trainee of IPM school (Farmers' Field School), I along with some of my friends got an opportunity to be a part of the drama. The storyline of the drama was simple yet satisfying the people of Rampur village eat food grown on heavy pesticides applications, farmers use pesticides unwisely in greater scale and with zero protection resulting in health and environment hazard. Later, the negative aspects of harmful pesticides come on light in the drama through sickness, and pollution. People seek remedy doctors and IPM trainers give people the knowledge on use of IPM rather than harmful pesticides. The doctors and IPM trainers provide knowledge on the botanical and biological pesticides, safe use of pesticides at last resort and consumption of healthy food.
On the last part of the drama, Muskaan Paasa (a comedy Nepali character) played by Mr. Basu Dev Sapkota, Coordinator of Rampur Farmers? Field School entertained the crowd through his sarcastic dialogues. Mr. Sapkota also mentioned the fact that Kavre, Nepal was the cancerous area some few years ago but minimizing the harmful pesticides has improved the situation.

I played the role of a doctor in the street drama on control of harmful pesticides. Being a doctor, my job was to examine people and recommend healthy food habits. The overall experience of the drama was quite good and fruitful to me as I learned a lot myself about the unknown impacts of the pesticides in health and the environment.

From my point of view, the message of the drama was well perceived by the audience. However, the aim of making nation a harmful pesticides free nation needs good policies, implementation of those policies and time to time awareness.
