Wind turbine to charge laptops

by Arushi Madan | 25-12-2013 03:23 recommendations 0

Within the Peruvian capital city of Lima, a nine-metre high wind turbine on a school building generates two kilowatt-hours of energy, and helps recharge hundreds of laptops and digital equipment. Meanwhile, passionate schoolchildren regularly monitor the ground ozone levels across the city, and submit the data to an international Google Earth project that records levels of pollutants.

These initiatives to preserve the environment have set the Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt school apart from many other educational organisations, and it has now been shortlisted among ten finalists for the Zayed Future Energy Prize 2014?s category for global high schools.

The Zayed Future Energy Prize represents the vision of the Late Founding Father and President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, who championed environmental stewardship. This annual award celebrates achievements that reflect impact, innovation, long-term vision and leadership in renewable energy and sustainability.
