Abu Dhabi (UAE?s capital) is running a campaign on waste segregation. Under this campaign , residents have been told to segregate waste and put in designated bins . CWM(Centre of Waste Management ) is installing 30,000 smart bins which are monitored by advanced radio frequency identification (RFID) remote sensor systems. Each waste bin has an electronic chip with its geographic and technical details, which is readable by a device in waste collection trucks (through RFID technology). The device is linked to a central monitoring station, which ensures timely collection of waste from containers and their periodic washing. If a waste collection truck passes a bin without collecting waste from it , an alarm will ring. There are 15,000 green bins for recyclable waste and 15,000 black in Abu Dhabi. It can be identified those who do not follow the instructions in real time. The weight of the green bin [recyclable] will always be lighter than the black bin. If the green bins are found to be heavier than black bins or if both are even equal in weight, It can be concluded that families are not properly segregating the waste. The Abu Dhabi emirate generates 33,000 tonnes of waste per day — more than ten million annually. Per capita waste generation in the emirate is 1.8 to 2 kilos per day. The campaign covers about 6-7 cities and aimed to achieve active community participation and enhance awareness about sustainable waste management. |The campaign will help improve general hygiene and environmental safety. The important issues of waste reduction, reuse and recycling are also being highlighted. waste segregation is to be practiced in every country and specially the developing countries should focus it from the governmental level. thank you for sharing it.

I'm always surprised that after segregation, the amount of waste incredibly shrinks. Segregation is really cool way to reduce the waste. :)

The Bee'ah bins in Sharjah also are a remarkable step, but they very less in numbers.
