My tour in Asian Development Bank (ADB) was amazing. I learned that although ADB's overarching and primary goal is to fight poverty in Asia and the Pacific, ADB has, in fact, also focused on its environmental and social sustainability performance and made huge effort to minimize the impact towards nature and the environment.
In order to become more aware of ADB's sustainable performance, I have researched and looked for ADB's published reports that focused on addressing ongoing environmental issues and problems in our world.
According to its recent report titled, "Addressing Climate Change in Transport", ADB's "motorized transport emissions have become a significant contributor to the global problem of greenhouse gas (GHG)", which ultimately leads to global warming. In fact, in 2009, CO2 released from transportation was "responsible for 23%" of GHG emissions. In 2006, Asia was responsible for "19% of total worldwide transport-sector related CO2 emissions".
Thus, ADB has implemented and developed an innovative solution to mitigate and lessen the CO2 emission released from the use of transportation vehicles.
ADB has introduced a free bike rent system whereby any staff can rent a bike for free to use for their commuting to ADB premise from home. There is no charge and anyone who wishes to use this service can pull out the locked key from the bike station panel and can return the bike to the original place after using it. Since this system was introduced a few years ago, several staff started cycling for their commuting, using this free service. This has contributed to reducing CO2 emissions within the ADB premise and alongside the transportation roads and is expected to help the staff keep up healthy.
Here are the photos of the bikes that I took while I was at ADB: (As you can see, many of the bikes are gone, which means that many staff workers are using and renting these bikes)

Bikes and especially their way of locking in the stand , is very nice. Bike is the most eco friendly & healthy means of transport. Thanks for sharing.
