In the United Kingdom, a supermarket chain store known as Waitrose, has decided to opt for a rather unusual alternative source of energy: tomatoes. This tomato-electricity is supplied by Green UK produces absolutely no waste.

The tomatoes plants are kept in greenhouses where the optimum carbon dioxide and light levels are controlled. The process of creating carbon dioxide produces heat that is used to turn turbines and produce electricity. This is quite sustainable as all the heat and carbon dioxide produced is ?fed? into the tomatoes.  In other farms, they anaerobic gas to produced the carbon dioxide instead of natural gas.

The particular organization known as Green UK also produces alternative energy from products such as pig waste, vegetable oil, organic waste gasification, biomass, as well as wind and hydro-power.

A similar principal is employed by the engines of Rolls Royce which is striving to go green and support tomato-electricity. In a direct quote, Rolls-Royce says ?the environment of the greenhouses is also enriched by a process that cleans carbon dioxide from the engine's exhaust flue gases in a catalytic converter and feeds it in precisely measured quantities to the tomato plants.?

Electricity generation with tomato's & from other waste is a welcome step. Rolls-Royce also is setting up a remarkable example to follow.
