We all love eating - but how much are we throwing out ? Most people don't realize how much food they throw away everyday and it's like wasting one of the precious things given by the god to us. Today we are produce about four billion metric tonnes of food per annum. yet due to poor practices in harvesting, storage and transportation, as well as market and consumer wastage it is of all food produced never reaches a human stomach. Furthermore ,this figure does not reflect the fact that large amount of land, energy, fertilizers and water have also been lose in the production of food stuff which simply end up as waste also it has an impact on the production of greenhouse gas emission and consequently on climate change. actually food waste is enormous drain on natural resources and a contributor to negative environmental impact. If food is wasted it means that all the resources and input used in the production of all the food are also lost. Modern society have a problem with food waste and the entire economy is wasteful. Many times developing world consumer waste little when entire society is poor, you conserve and manage resources . but in our rich societies, characterised by resources wealth-cars, housing infrastructure -even if you are cash poor. It's rightly pointed out that it's wrong to blame consumers for buying too much bagged salad or throwing food away if the label carries an unrealistic best before date,or if consumer are not taught HOW TO COOK and if the entire food sectors spends hundreds of millions on advertising and as a result it has an impact on the production of greenhouse gas. So the important question we must ask ourselves is Why Do We Waste So Much Food ? without knowing the answer we are not fully equipped with the right knowledge to tackle food waste problems. actually no one waste food in a conscious effort to be bad we are waste food mostly because we are unaware that we are doing so. cynics may argue otherwise, but we can least to change our habits of consuption |

India has to build more warehouses for safe storage of food. Food wastage must be controlled. Individual action will create mass reaction.

Just not eating fast food can considerably reduce the impact of food waste. Just one hamburger patty requires up to 500 cows' slimes. Franken-food.

I agree with you.
First part of the report: As India is now self reliant in food production it must augment its harvesting, storage and transportation infrastructure.
Individual Food wastage must be declared a punishable crime (As Arushi has pointed out). It pains me a lot to see colossal food wastage

Yes, I agree with you. I don't waste food myself and try to convince others that food wasting is an offense to the human beings and the environment. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for highlighting this burning issue of today. Food wastage , indeed , is a crime. I myself hate it too and have been spreading awareness all around educating people NOT to waste it. I feel food wastage should be declared a punishable crime. It hurts me so much in restaurants , parties etc people taking so much in their plate and wasting it .
