GYELS- A Truly Wonderful Experience

by Jeonghyun Lee | 23-02-2014 21:18 recommendations 0

Two weeks has passed since the GYELS (Global Youth Environmental Leadership Summit). Just as a lot of people including some of my fellow Tunza Eco-Generation members, I really enjoyed the event. I had a great time listening to interesting lectures and participating in events such as making Eco Meal Plans. Yet, the best moment was the time I had with you fellow E-gen members as well as Christy and other great teachers from both Eco Generation and the Green Fund.

It was truly an amazing experience meeting such good people from all over the world including Thailand, Saudi Arabia, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, UAE, Micronesia, Bahrain, Latvia, and Uzbekistan. (Phew! It?s hard to list them all J)

As a delegate to Korea, I was not able to spend the whole week with fellow members, but during the two days at the forum held at Seoul National University, I had plenty of great experiences. I was able to listen to lectures on Sustainable Cities, and how we can all take part to make cities more eco-friendly. One of the most memorable ones was the one given by Professor Robert Fouser about his neighborhood Seochon, especially because I was interested in Korean Traditional Houses. I also felt a bit embarrassed at the fact that a Korean tradition was being kept by a foreigner instead of Koreans.

Anyways, the best moment was participating in the GYELS and introducing Korea to fellow E-gen members with my dear friend Kim Sun. We introduced Taekwondo, Hanoks, Korean foods as well as snacks. It was so sad that the time was only five minutes and we couldn?t explain more. Still, I hope you guys got a chance to take a closer look at Korea. I really enjoyed other delegates? introduction to their country. Thanks to them, I was able to get a whole broader view about the world.

It was such a bad thing that the event was only two days long for me, and I couldn?t spend more time with you. Yet, the two days would be one of the best moments of 2014, and I truly hope that the members who took part in the GYELS enjoyed their visit to Korea for the rest of the week.

I would like to thank everyone who made this possible, including fellow E-Gen members from all over the world, great teachers like Christy who planned such unique events, and Samsung Engineering, Green Fund, and of course Tunza Eco-Generation. For those who weren?t able to visit the 2014 GYELS, look forward to 2015 as there are plenty of chance!

Thank you for sharing your insightful and motivating experiences and thoughts in GYELS. It must have been really fun learning about Korean Traditional Houses, especially lectured by a foreign professor, which is of course very interesting! Although 5 minutes of introducing each other's country was short, I hope it was an invaluable time learning more about others' cultures and traditions! Nice work! :D

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Yes , it was really interesting to know about Korean Houses. Also I agree with you that 5 minutes was a very short time for introducing our individual countries.
