(Note: This is an article that I have written for our school publication's Facebook page but it was not published due to the clashing schedules of the publication staffs and advisers. So, I thought of posting it here to share to you the researches of my classmates. The project on low-cost mouse has an environmental feature because it the project combined recycled parts from defective mice to create a new one, with built-in numeric keypad. The low price of it is already a plus ☺)

TCNHS? young scientists gained awards from Reg?l Sci. Fair

Student researchers of TCNHS brought home honors with their research projects during the 2013 DepEd-Intel Regional Science Fair last October 12, 2013 at the National Educators? Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) Region XI, Davao City.

Shyn Angelie Desabille, IV-Rizal, with her project ?Low-Cost Mouse with Built-in Numeric Pad? earned the 1st place for the Physical Science – Individual Category, Cluster 2. She was guided by her research adviser, Mr. Rollan Inis.

Garnering 3rd place for Life Science – Individual Category, Cluster 2 was Kristelle Mae Sanoy?s (IV-del Pilar) project on ?Allium Species: Spice Fungicide Against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical Race 4,? with her coach Mrs. Lourdesita Macasilhig.

?Unexpected ang pagdaog namo kay among mga kalaban kay from other ESEP schools pod as well as PhilSci kay kabalo na baya ta na ang PhilSci kay gahi kaayo,? uttered Shyn Desabille. (Our victory was unexpected because we had opponents from other ESEP schools as well as PhilSci, and we all know that PhilSci is a very strong opponent.)

Other student researchers who partook the event were John Rey Jumangit, Ciarra Gianna Jandoc and Romen Samuel Wabina, a team from Class del Pilar, with their science project ?Assessment Of Total Mercury Content In Three Different Fish Species Sold In Tagum City Public Market? mentored by Dr. Charlyn Emata and the team of Novy Jean Padua, Resalmae Aninon (Class del Pilar) and Czarlo Demeterio (Class Rizal) with their project ?Mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni) Seeds Crude Extract as Effective Natural Antifungal Agent Agains Fusarium oxysporum f. sp cubense Tropical Race 4 Causing Fusarium Wilt of Bananas,? with Mr. Pedro Batingal as their adviser.

?The experience was great even though hindi naging plano ng Diyos na maipanalo namin ?yun pero we?re proud and happy kasi naging avenue siya na mai-showcase namin yung study - isa sa galing na mayroon ang City High. Masaya naman ang experiences namin in conducting the study and during the preparations though pressured masyado,? shared Jumangit while telling his experience from the conduct of the experiment to the paper writing.

?Lingaw diay ang Research. Dili diay siya ing-ana kalisod pareha sa ginaingon sa uban,? expressed Sanoy. (Research is fun. It is not that difficult like the others tell me.)

The regional science fair winners will have the chance to participate in the National Intel Science and Engineer Fair (ISEF) to be held at UP Diliman, Quezon City or at the 12th National Science Quest headed by the Association of Science Educators in the Philippines (ASEP) at Baguio City this coming February.

Yes Rohan. The researchers really enjoyed the experience.
And yes, I included the vernacular statements because it was a part of my job as the news writer, to indicate the exact quotation and translate it in English.
