Music, Sleep, Environment

I was lucky to have a change to visit the "Mozart Wohnhauss" in Salzburg, Austria, on my way back from Geneva. There are two Mozart memorial museums in Salzburg, one in the birthplace of the genius, the other in his former living place. To me it was such a memorable trip I would never forget. From there, I got interesting tips about the correlation between environment, music and sleep.

About MUSIC, many books told us that as humans evolved over millions of years, music was tightly woven into the lives of virtually every culture around the globe. Recent scientific research is beginning to show that music is part of our biological makeup, encoded in our genes as part of what makes us human.

As for SLEEP, scientists told us that sleep is highly complex restoration process for the mind and the body. The average person spends roughly 23 years of a 75-year lifespan asleep. Despite these facts, extensive study of sleep is really just getting underway. when a person experiences chronic poor  sleep, health and well-being can suffer significantly.

Now about ENVIRONMENT, we know that throughout history the environment has been a powerful source of inspiration for visual artists and musicians. In fact in one of UNEP websites (forgot the URL, I apologize) I read that music is one of the most powerful mediums to communicate environmental messages to billions of people worldwide – irrespective of race, religion, income, gender or age.

It's really proven to me. Most of the time whenever I start getting the feeling that it's not easy being green, this correlation of music-sleep-environment can be of particular help. I'll just listen to some genuinely good eco-themed songs, and take a deep sleep. Try it by yourself.

Thanks for the interesting article. What a good coincidence! I was just thinking about links between the environment and music. Indeed, music opens our heart to the nature. :)
