MY LITTLE SIS ARTICLE ON GREEN ECONOMY AND YOU, REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE. (Just Want To Share)

by | 18-03-2014 09:21 recommendations 0

To talk about this important topic that is crucial to this generation especially there is need to first of all define all the terms in other to give us great insight to what green economy, the importance to us as individuals and our own contributions.

Green economy is a growing concept in every part of the world, it is simply concerned with human well- being, their sustenance in terms of conservation of both natural and artificial resources. Green economy is not only focused on this generation but also the next generation. According to Wikipedia, green economy focuses on six main sections which are renewable energy which deal with sources of energy that are replenishable such as sunlight, wind waves and so on, other sections are  water management, land management, waste management, green buildings and sustainable transportation. To understand this concept in simple language, green economy simply focuses on protecting the environment, keeping it clean, healthier and better to live in. to achieve this we therefore need to learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle.

To reduce means to minimize the amount of resources used. This includes, water, energy, and product purchased. In other to encourage waste reduction. To reuse means to make sure resources are used for as long as possible before being replaced, and to recycle means don?t throw away make new product from what you have used. All three concepts are the pillars to ensuring green economy.

In Nigeria today I noticed a lot opposite to this three concepts where we see people using things the way they like, houses leaving their bulbs on in day time, throwing away of water and drink cans and bottles after exhausting its content. Most people do all this due to ignorance which is not an excuse. It is high time everyone started to know their own part benefits of ensuring green economy in terms of reduce, reuse and recycle.

If an eleven years old girl like me will embrace green economy then it does not elude anybody, everybody should be involved. This is what I do I make sure I switch off all appliances and bulbs instead before going to school and also encourage my daddy to buy low energy bulbs in the house, this as help in cost savings on electricity bills monthly. I told my mummy that I don?t want to her to buy me water bottle since there were a lot of empty water cans at home, I refill it and take it to school, by doing this I did not only save my mother?s money but also the environment, by keeping it clean. I make sure that I re-sow my worn-out clothes instead of throwing them away and actually if am tired of wearing a dress I recycle it by giving it out to someone else that needs it, most times my little sister.

At this juncture I want to ask who should reduce, reuse and recycle. Every child, adult and old men and women in Nigeria, production companies and the government. Its benefit are not only about the environment but also ourselves. The Less rubbish in the dump, less waste, cleaner environment, save electricity, save money, less pollution from your car, fresher air, save water, source of employment, source of income by selling to recycling companies, less refuse burning all leading to a greener Nigeria.

In conclusion children tell your parents, parents tell your children, husbands tell your wives, government enlighten and encourage your citizens to join in the pursuit of a greener Nigeria, so therefore I say Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
