"SAVE EARTH" -Lecture spreading awareness among labourers

by Arushi Madan | 22-03-2014 00:09 recommendations 0

I always think about the factory workers , construction workers and other labourers who may not be getting to read newspapers , magazines , social media and  hence may not be aware of  increasing threat of Global warming ,greenhouse gases and their role in global warming. So I decided  to spread awareness to this segment of society.

I went to Sharjah Industrial Area and went to 6 factories/ companies . I met their HR department and told them about my role as environmentalist , as Tunza Eco generation ambassador  and requested them to allow their labourers to attend my awareness lecture which is going to impart them knowledge regarding current environment issues , global warming  , role of common man in current scenario and how each of their actions can help to curb global warming and protect environment and our MOTHER EARTH.

I was pleased to see positive reaction from these HR department heads /HR Directors. First they were very happy to see a teenager like me taking such initiatives towards environment protection. They appreciated my efforts and patted my shoulders and also gave permission to their labourers to attend my lecture.

18 labourers finally came for my lecture . In my lecture to these 18 labourers ,  I first introduced  Tunza Eco Gen and myself as Tunza Eco gen ambassador .

I spoke to them about increasing threats of global warming , climate change , harm caused by plastic dumping , paper wastage . As some of these labourers were not well versed with English so I was talking in English and my mother was translating in regional language"Hindi" which most of them could understand.

I also told them that the way they throw the empty cartons is not right and adds to landfill which further aggravates global warming which triggers climate change and other disasters like melting of polar ice caps (the habitats of polar bears)  , ravaging of coral reefs ,extreme heat in cold areas , extinction of species , increasing floods , hurricanes and overall disruption of ecosystem.

I told them to reduce wastage and try to reuse and recycle wherever they can showing example (and pointing towards) of the table I made from scrap tyres. They were fascinated and impressed with the table and the fact it is made from scrap tyres which were about to be wasted and added to landfill.

They took interest in my lecture  and as expected they were not aware of such things due to lack of time and other resources to read about such current environmental affairs.

Finally I told them how each of their actions can contribute towards reducing our carbon footprint and saving environment. We ended the session by taking a pledge together saying   "LET'S SAVE  EARTH".

As thanksgiving token, I gave them  juices, mint boxes, pens /pencils made from recycled material  (from Tunza promotional items ) ,  give aways/gifts from Bee'ah-Sharjah's environment and waste management company ( cute USB in the shape of Bee'ah garbage bin , nice bottle , glass , pens ) & cool shades/goggles and pens by TDK.

I thanked Bee'ah &  TDK for supporting me and providing me give aways /promotional items and  Tunza Eco Gen for supporting me by give aways/gifts and overall in grooming me as an environmentalist.
