Today, I visited a small farm on the outskirts of my city, Goyang. The interesting thing about my city is that you can see farms surrounded by modern buildings and high rise apartments. This is thanks to the ?GREEN BELT? policy, which regulates a certain percentage of a city to be left undeveloped for the environment. The undeveloped land is usually used as either rice paddies or farms. As a result, my city is a complete mix of buildings, parks, highways, and farms.

           Anyways, people had harvested all the crops, and the field was barren and filled with rocks. We had to pick out the rocks as well as trash in order to plant new seeds that varied form lettuce to cabbages. Students from numerous schools had gathered in the foggy morning field, and we literally started organizing the field wearing raincoats as it was raining lightly.

           Despite the gloomy weather, everyone worked hard with high expectations for this year?s harvest. After picking up rocks from the soil, we raked the field to created burrows for planting seeds. It was a dull and tiring work, yet we finished it quite quickly. When that was finished, we also covered the soil with black plastic sheets in order to keep the soil in place.

           It really was a unique experience working in a farm in the middle of the city. I felt as if I had become somewhat of a modern farmer. We are planning to visit the farm two weeks later in order to plant more seeds as well as young plants. I hope to bring you more news about the progress in our new plants and the farm itself!
