SciFest 2014 was an unique exhibition cum festival held at the Meydan Theatre in Dubai a few backs back. Its uniqueness lay in fact that it sought to turn science into a participatory subject by bringing it out of the narrow confines of educational curriculums. This festival?s objective was to ?bring culture back to science and make science fun and exciting?.
It was, therefore, quite an honour for us at Green Hope UAE to be one of the exhibitors at this festival. We put up a booth on two days and interacted with hundreds of school students, parents , educators and general visitors and explained to them the various aspects of sustainable living . Water is our planet?s most critical resource , more so for our region and its conservation is vital for our survival.
We helped the visitors learn about their water footprint by taking a simple test. We also engaged them on the concepts of sustainable consumption, and also the benefits of recycling and upcycling. One of the tools we use during our workshops is ?enviro-quiz? and this was hugely appreciated by all those who visited our stand.
Environmental apathy within civil society has been identified as one of the key stumbling blocks in the propagation of the sustainable development agenda and we, at Green Hope UAE , have taken this up as our core mission. Spreading awareness about the need to adopt a sustainable lifestyle is our goal and participation at the SciFest Festival helped us to engage proactively with all those who visited.
