Take an Action, feel the reaction!! |

"Present are we, future are we, we can be change if together, are we."- Manisha Shrestha. She would take a couple of seconds to say this but the impact on one?s mind could be long lasting. One may take hours to explain all these but will people be interested? In this Fast moving world where people have less time for each other, Will they stop for a couple of minutes to listen to us? May be not!! We got fractions of seconds to impress people, to hit their mind, to motivate them and to get our message through their mind and heart, nothing could be better than a slogan to get the job done. Inspired from the same fact, Global Power shift-Nepal team decided to organize a slogan competition as a part of the three day training (28-30 March, 2014) on "I am a Power Shifter" to come up with slogans that can tickle mind of people, motivate and inspire them. The program was designed to orient potential power shifter about the program and further prepare an action plan on six different themes to initiate and sustain activism against climate change. No matter if its climate change- the greatest challenge of human civilization in present scenario threatens our lives and entire system, environmental issues in developing countries like Nepal are always less prioritized. At these moments we need to challenge thoughts of people and awake their soul to make them realize that they belong to the nature and not the opposite. And we have very limited time to strike their mind and soul. Youth in the training exhibiting their creativity suggested the slogans that could bring positive vibes in the society along tickling mind of people and motivate youths and communities to contribute for environmental conservation. "If climate can change, why can?t we??" Wrote Sashi Thapa, a slap on the human resistance to change and to internalize that we, humans have caused the climate change, it?s us who needs to change in order to mitigate and adapt to climate change. That?s something that can strike mind of people. Raj Prasai?s slogan "I do not matter, my thoughts matter, my attitude matters" reinforced the notion that it?s the attitude and behaviour of people that can bring change in the society. Youth have zeal and enthusiasm to create a change, Khimananda Sharma?s slogan, "Once I feel, I will, Once I will- I can, If I can, I do, When I do, it changes" noted that internalizing the change and changing behaviour is the most crucial part of initiating the change. After all "Change should be in behaviour, not just in words", Amulya Shrestha. All the slogans written were to inspire people to change and internalize that climate is changing and we should change our behaviour in order to survive by letting the nature live. Slogans like, "Mother nature needs our nurture, Its now or never." By Bina Ranjit, Anusha Lamsal motivated youth and all to conserve nature with her slogan, "Yesterday we smoked the green, Today we make it clean, Let?s make a team and GO GREEN" But above all understanding the program?s objective and inspiring to be a power shifter, Renu Bashyal wrote, Dark around!! Stop complaining, start Thinking, Get up. Be the change, Be a Power shifter!! We really to need to stop complaining and start acting, she suggested. 10 slogans were selected by the GPS team that could be a tool to motivate people to revise their actions against nature and inspire people to be an agent of change for better life and better earth. 85 power shifters have now vowed to be an agent of change and they are anticipated to inspire millions to change. GPS tea m suggests, "Let?s make a chain of Power, through power shifters, To bring a revolution for brighter future." (Sabina Karki) The management team decided to do this action of slogan writing and it was felt the slogan has already touched many hearts among the participants. We took an action and felt the reaction!! (Take an Action, feel the reaction-Prasuj Mainali)

Very True, Abhishek, the youth are committed to work in the different themes. I think the eco friendly behaviour group can use the resources developed by Tunza Eco Gen more than any group.

Thank you and Congratulation to all the participants, mentors and each individual who committed their effort, time and idea to act for climate change from their respective field for Promoting Eco friendly habits and behavior, Eco friendly tourism business, Promoting Alternative Energy in Household level, Climate research and policy, Documentation, Documentary and Drama.

You guys were simply great Raj. I am glad being in the organizing team I could play a part to select these slogans and go through creativity of you all. there are other slogans as well that will be shared soon in the blog of GPS Nepal.

Thank you very much for your warm comments Christy. The youth were really creative and enthusiastic, their concern for environment really moved me. there are few other write ups that other participants wrote which shows their commitment for the environment.
I am glad, I could contribute to motivate them as presenter in the very first day of the training.

You've executed it very nicely Pratap. I witnessed the excitement of participants during the announcement of slogans. It was very encouraging. In fact the training as a whole was very effective. Revised again.

Wow what an inspiring moment it is! I feel so moved by youths' beautiful mind on the environment. All slogans have profound meaning and they, yes, definitely leave footprints on my heart too. Thank you for sharing, Pratap :)

Thank you very much, Arushi. The slogans are very inspiring indeed, these slogans were selected as the best ten slogans in the competition. We had very tough time selecting them all as other slogans were equally good.
You are absolutely right, slogans leave a lasting impact. the two slogans you wrote are also very good and motivating.
