UGANDA'S POOR REFUSE DUMPING HABIT WHAT YOU CAND DO TO HELP |
---|
In a country so blessed with trees and a nice weather, humans have turned most part of the country in a refuse dump. Seeing dirt on the road while working through the streets of ANY location in Uganda is common, anything else apart from that is "weird". This is in sharp contrast with its neighbouring nation, Rwanda that is literally green (polythene bags not allowed). People find it easier to throw dirt across the road due to the unavailability of bins close by. So I decided to embark on a project and its aim is to distribute bins throughout Uganda and then, the refuse will be disposed and recycled. Now I have tried reaching a lot of sponsors for this program, at least 15, I have gotten regret emails from them all. So your question is how can you help? You can help Uganda get rid of its waste by comenting with a list of organizations you feel would want to sponsor the project(s) (Bin distribution and /or tree planting). I have attached one of the regret emails below: Thank you. Thank you for your email of 20 March 2014 regarding the tree planting exercise you are planning to hold to support Tunza Eco-Generation, the Environmental Networking Platform for Children and Youth by Samsung Engineering and UNEP. You ask if KLM could sponsor your initiative. Having carefully reviewed your request I regret to inform you that KLM will be unable to make a contribution. KLM receives hundreds of requests for support every week, ranging from the donation of money, tickets or cargo capacity, to the publication of advertisements. The number of appeals is in fact so great that we have had to impose a strict sponsorship policy, based on a number of binding criteria. This policy allows us to support several worthy causes annually, in the areas of medical care, the environment, and the arts. KLM supports WNF, the Dutch branch of WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature). That means we have to turn down a lot of projects, many of which have very laudable aims. The sheer volume of requests, as well as the economic situation, forces us to make choices, even if the plea is limited to a small contribution or only a few tickets. I fully understand that our decision will come as a disappointment to you, but I hope I have given you some insight into the nature of our sponsorship policy. I wish you all the best. Yours sincerely, KLM CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS Ms Gees-Ineke Smit Sponsoring Consultant

You have started a noble cause for sure. Do not worry about regret mails.
Persistent efforts will bring a positive response & the change you desired for Uganda.
I'm sure Uganda will be as green as Rwanda. Its only a matter of time.
