Canada: the true north strong and free. However this land of the north is home to an amazing wealth of biodiversity, ecology and nature. The more that Canadian?s learn about their land, the more we become aware of how fragile it is. And thus it becomes important to learn about, appreciate, preserve and protect Canada?s wild. The first step in doing so is the ecozones.

Ecozones are like pieces in a jigsaw puzzles. Each is unique, different and holds its own share of Canada?s biodiversity. However, when these pieces and puzzled to together, one can make out the true nature of Canada?s nature. The concept of an ecozone is relatively simple. An ecozone is basically a geographic division within a country representing unique biotic and abiotic features. Canada is divided into 15 terrestrial and marine ecozones. Each ecozone is shaped by the landscape, climate, flora, fauna and finally humans. Humans, however, have recently have been having a significant impact on the ecozones. Through activities such as deforestation in the Boreal Forests, monoculture in the Praries, and the introduction of invasive species in the Western Cordillera.

So, let?s embark on a journey for the next few months: let?s explore the ecozones of Canada. We will take a look at some of the most distinctive, fragile, and beautiful ecozones in Canada and gain knowledge on the importance, unique features, and human impacts on some of Canada?s most iconic landscapes and ecozones.
