RAFALIMANANTSOA Nantenaine Narcisse Raymond distributes 4000 to 5000 liters of water to 5000 inhabitants of Beheloke every day at the WWF water plant in Beheloke.
However Beheloke is situated in the Littoral, in the South Western part of region 256km from Toliara. The Village is situated near the sea but ironically have very little rain fall slightly above 600mm per year. Because of this the village is semi desert and lack portable water. Portable water is like gold to the villagers.
Recruited in 2012 by the local community taking care of the Beheloke desalinization plant, Mr. Narcisse as he prefers to be called was trained for one week by Trunz, the Swiss company that produced the desalinization engines for water filtering and purification. ?I was trained together with my colleagues to perform minor technical maintenance for the station? Narcisse said.
?I spend 9 to 10 hours of my time working at the plant. Together with my colleague Tonda we start the distribution water between 10 to 11 am and stop at 5pm?. He added.
And Narcisse is very positive about his work. He said ?despite the numerous tensions and fights among villagers when there is water scarcity at the plant and at times some technical errors that are more than my capacity, I am doing quite well with my job.?
Early in the morning Narcisse makes a general roll call to ensure that each family have water to drink because the Desalinization plant produce at least 5Cubic meters of water every day, which should be rationed 20 liters per family. ?When the station does not produce enough water some villagers go back to their homes without water. But the next morning I serve them water first before everybody? He added.
In a curtsey visit of WWF Volunteers to the Plant, Mr. Gaetan told Israel Bionyi one of the Volunteers that the locals pay 250 Ariary, money which is used to pay technicians and keep good maintenance of the plant. He believes the village committee in charge of the plant will raise enough money to be able to take care of the plant technically speaking before the end of the project.
But the members of the village committee decry the heavy cost of maintenance and wish WWF could continue to support them technically with some important parts to replace at the plant even after WWF has handed the full control and maintenance to them. This was during a meeting with the volunteers which took place on Saturday 19 April 2014.
?For Instance we pay 50 000 Ariary per hour for technicians we hire to take work on the time to time technical problems we encounter. If this continues, I am afraid the money we keep in the bank will get finish on maintenances.? Said one member of the Bureau.
At the moment the committee members of the Bureau want TRUNZ to give more training to Narcise and his colleague Tonda such that, they could well manage the equipments and solve small technical faults.
?I don?t know much how to handle the electricity at the plant, some basic technicalities I don?t know. I need more training.? Said Tonda.
WWF trained the members of the Bureau on how to better manage the Plant and still follow up their evolution and make analysis for them. The greatest wish of the president of the committee is that WWF and TRUNZ should make a technical check on the plant before the end of the project

Hats off for Mr. Narcisse! Thank you so much for sharing the desalination plant story in Beheloke village. The story moved my heart a lot. There will be no enough emphasis in the importance of water.

WWF has made a commendable contribution by sponsoring a desalinization plant in Beheloke.
Training to the personnel is essential so that minor snags can be taken care of.

Thank you for sharing the pathetic condition of Beheoke on not having a pure and portable water to drink . Hope for the best steps to be implemented by WWF and TRUNZ to secure drinking water to the villagers.
