Organic Farming

Recently I had the opportunity to visit a small Indian village by the name Enabavi in the Jangaon district of the Andhra Pradesh State. In all aspects, the village is same when compared to most villages throughout India. What makes it stand out is its method of farming. As most of you might be knowing, agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy with two thirds of the Indian population being farmers.

Enabavi is commonly called a ?chemical free village? by the media groups and is known for its unique form of farming, called Organic Farming. It is the type of farming which involves zero use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides makes the food we consume harmful to our own health. The major reason farmers use chemicals is to prevent the crops from rotting and to retain the fertility of the soil. Big companies in the agribusiness sector have advertised and marketed their chemical products in such way that the uneducated farmers think it is better to use chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Little do they know that organic protein compounds present in manure and animal excreta can be used as alternatives to chemical fertilizers. The farmers of Enabavi village have realized this and have been putting in their best efforts to cultivate crops organically and ensure that the consumer?s health is protected.

With the publication of India?s Food Science Report last year, which stated that crops grown organically are better for health, the public has decided to go in favour of organic foods. Today, you can see people asking salesmen in supermarket that they only want to buy organically grown food. This kind of awareness has made Enabavi a sensational news item and the public is in praise of it.

It was really fun visiting Enabavi. There is a 450 mts high hill in that village and climbing it with my classmates was a memorable experience. There is also great scenic beauty present in the beautiful Indian village. If you are visiting India, I urge you to visit this village.

More & more villages should convert to this model. We all must encourage organic consumption.
If there is more demand, the farmers will be encouraged to produce more.
    Well reported.

Yes, having a chemical free village is a great thing. And the food grown there is healthy too.
Also the food grown there is cheaper.
    Thank you everyone :)

Chemical free village! I wish I could live in that clean village :) Thank you so much for the great introduction. If we can eat healthy food from chemical free villages, we would be even much healthier than now we are.
