Hello everyone, I hope everyone had a wonderful month of April. Its months that come with interesting Eco generation events like the school kit competition and the earth day handwritten commitment. For sure it was an exciting month to all of us. Well in my report today I would like to share with you about eating local foods and how in Tanzania we love eating our own locally grown food. Any person who loves to eat simple will go for locally grown food eating local is healthy and cheap. The reason I say local food is healthy is every bite you take on organic food is fighting a diseases. A research done on organic food is that we are what we eat, every 35 days our skin replaces itself, our livers takes about a month. Our body makes new cells from the food we eat so what we eat literally becomes us. Imagine feeding yourself chemically processed foods in about a month your body cells will be replaced with those chemicals.
Tanzania is a county blessed with tropical equatorial climate, with two major rainfall regimes which allows seasonal growth of various local foods, there is almost everything you can imagine to be real food. The diversity of climate and geographical zone makes Tanzania farmers grow huge variety of fruits, vegetables and spices. A lot of livestock?s and delicious fish and other sea creatures found in the Indian Ocean and out great lakes and rivers. All this abundant food has given Tanzanians locals a reason to love eating our own food and most of all a healthy diet. About 95% of food demand in the county is met by our local foods. Living alone the food insecurity caused by the ongoing global climate change most people are struggling to eat healthy cheap local food. The issue with wanting to eat local food is all about sustainable production and consumption which enhances the economy, environment and social health.
However because of globalization we cannot deny the inversion of processed food. From our local stores to supermarkets, restaurants and homes we are invade with alien foods, from canned meat, beans and maize, Powder milk, and many more foods which have major effects in our health. The rate of people suffering from cancer caused by the choices they make in foods they eat is now high. Most people think eating junk food fashionable. In the food tank Facebook page one post said never eat anything your great grandmother would not recognize as food. This is so true in the sense that what we are eating today is not real food, food is not processed it?s grown. Also another thing I learned from food tank is we weren?t born eating processed food. We were taught to want it. We learned it so we can unlearn it. I quiet agree with these if we have learned it, then it?s the high time that we unlearn this bad habit and start eating organic food. In African, particularly Tanzanian tradition we are taught how to preserve food for a long time without the use of any chemicals, there is smoking, drying, salting and many others. For years these preserving methods have proven high efficiency and not causing diseases such as cancer and other related ones.
It?s very important to eat something you can really call food, eating chemically processed and preserved food with a formula that you do not even understand is putting our own lives into risk of being sick. So I encourage all Eco generation members and people reading this report to love eating your local foods, and promote our local farmers. Eating local does not destroy our health or our environment. If we just do one thing, make one conscious choice that can change the world, go organic and buy organic food, stop using chemical and start supporting local farmers. No other single choice you can make to improve the health of your family and the planet will have greater positive repercussion for our future.

Local food is the best option. Organic is much better. Chemically Processed food leaves a carbon footprint & thus must be avoided.
I agree with you article & will spread the word around for sure.
Thanks for a well written report.

Thank you for an inspiring and lovely article. Thanks for explaining the biological significance on our body due to food we eat. I agree with you that we should eat locally grown food , home made/cooked food and rely less on junk /chemically processed food to enjoy good health thereby saving environment as well.

Thank you for the interesting article, Francisca! Obese is getting more serious everywhere in the world. The point is, becoming obese is much harder if we eat what our grand mother had been eating. Alien food is key of addiction to MSG, sugar and caffeine.
