My dear friends, do you remember last time when you visited the Zoo and noticed the lovely animals. Personally, I feel very thrilled to visit the zoo as looking & feeling the animals? habitat takes me closer to the nature. Mother Nature has made this beautiful planet where if we all live in harmony & do not disturb its cycle the environmental problems will cease to exist.
I have visited many Zoological Gardens like in Dubai, Al Ain, Malaysia, Singapore & India. I found Malaysia?s Lost World of Tambun as the best. It is not a zoo exactly but here you are allowed to touch, feel & feed the animals, birds & fishes and therefore it is very interesting.
Coming back to Dubai Zoo, which I visited many times. The animals are well fed, healthy but the zoo seems cramped with so many animals & the place looked smaller. It was under planning to shift this zoo elsewhere to a more spacious location. Now, the same has been planned & it is likely that this summer will be the last summer for the poor animals in the cramped enclosure.
What has caught my attention is the fact that current zoo planned to be located on the outskirts of the city shall be environmentally sustainable. It will be a green zoo. Dubai Municipality has taken power consumption into consideration when designing the green project, and will incorporate solar power, water recycling, waste disposal and other recycling facilities. This eco-friendly project will use solar energy to function. Authorities plan to tap into solar energy to generate electricity as well as operate an artificial wadi system, transportation, and amusement facilities inside the park. The park will use off-grid hybrid PV systems for irrigation. Hybrid system will use sunlight during the day and switch over to conventional electricity at night. The park will also use water and waste water recycling facilities for an artificial wadi, consisting of water falls and boating facilities. The animals and birds from the current Dubai zoo will also be transferred to the new venue in Al Warqa, which is 80 times bigger than the existing Jumeirah facility.
