Air Pollution

The air we breathe is basic of life. It is composed of nitrogen 78% oxygen 21% carbon dioxide 0.03% and other rare gases and water vapor. As a result of industrial activities both mining and manufacturing, as well as travel or transport and even when it comes to domestic activities, millions of urban dwellers are exposed to polluted air.

How the air is polluted

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        Carbon monoxide, emitted mainly by car, generators and motorcycles etc.

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        Odors from sewage, garbage, landfills and animal farms.

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        Smokes from burning

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        Nitrogen Oxides emitted mainly by power stations and vehicles

Effects of Air Pollution

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        Effective ageing of lungs

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        Coughing

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        Painful breathing, which causes asthma

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        Eye irritation

The pollution of air by chorofluoro-carbons also attacks the ozone layer, which help protect the high radiation from the sun.

WHAT CAN WE DO AS INDIVIDUAL AND AS COMMUNITIES TO MINIMIZE OR CONTROL AIR POLLUTION?

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        Plant more trees to absorb heat

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        Use incinerators to burn garbage and make compost out of biological waste

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        As a driver do not drive smoking vehicles

?span style="font-size: 7pt line-height: normal font-family: 'Times New Roman'">        Create awareness to help educate others on what you do know.
