Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE script>AR-SAscript> MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This year will see 118 bio-diesel powered buses in use in Dubai following the success of its pilot project.
The fleet, which is manfactured by Mercedes, has the following features:
1) Solar powered internal lighting
2) Bio diesel engines
3) Retreaded tires
4) Eco –friendly flooring and furniture material
The buses which will be powered by a mixture of cooking oil and diesel ,emitting 33 per cent less CO2 than conventional vehicles will help in the reduction of fuel costs by 11 per cent.
The aim Road and Transport Authority (RTA) is to have a full fledged fleet of the green buses in operation before the Expo 2020.
The Expo 2020 with the large influx of travelers it will bring, will entail large scale transportation and this initiative will be a major step in reducing CO2 emissions, something that is very crucial as the Expo2020 approaches.
I appreciate the foresightedness of the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) and hope that their efforts to increase levels of sustainable development in public life continue to grow.
