Originally man had to struggle for survival like other animals. Now he has become the dominant species in the biosphere. He has achieved this position because of his unique physical and mental features, such as skilled hands and superior brain. He can think out and solve problems, make and use tools and machines, domesticate and use animals, raise and utilize plants, can protect himself against weather, wild animals, hunger and disease, and create comfortable artificial environment. He has foresight and strong memory. He has devised a spoken and written language and this enables him to record and communicate his ideas to others. Perhaps some biological limitations, such as the lake of defensive organs in man, necessitated manual skills, mental faculties and social life.
Mental capabilities of man have enabled him to explore and understand natural phenomena, and to manipulate the environment to his advantage. Man is more than a mere biological creature as he has a strong desire for comfortable and secure life. Therefore, he depends more on and draws more materials and energy from the environment than other organisms. He has developed a new environment, called Sociocultural Environment, within the natural environment. This new environment comprises the substances, articles and institutions created by man for his comforts and security. It has contributed to the betterment of human society considerably. However, man is still not a social and cultured being to the desired extent because of his strong self-interest.
