Batangas starts regulating piggeries, too

by Bam Azores | 03-04-2012 22:43 recommendations 0

In the Philippines, The Government has again declared that piggeries are also a factor that may be polluting the lakes and lagoons because of the direct discharge of  animal waste coming from backyard piggeries. In the province of Batangas, the  Environment and Natural Resources Officer Laudemir Salac said his office would require backyard hog raisers to have a permit from the Protected Area Management Bureau, to minimize and control the effects of such pollutants entering the lake waters.

The piggery problem also happened in one of the seven lakes in our city, which is known as Bunot Lake. In addition, the lake is also congested with floating fishcages and affluent coming from domestic waste from the households around the lake. The Government should really consider the cause and effect of people living by the lakes especially informal dwellers since majority of them lack the presence of septic tanks in their premises.

The real problem I see with all these violations I have mentioned above are happening in our country is due to the inability of our Government to enforce the laws that were made to protect our Natural resources. In this regard I see the importance for us to take an active part as individuals and/or organization to contribute in our own little ways in helping our Government in there effort to protect and preserve our Natural Resources

Me too ;^) Thank you for the article! I think it is really hard to put strict ragulations on business men in developing conturies. Because the politicians worry about slowing economic development...
