The UN Park is the river bank area of the Bagmati River. It was previously used for the dumping of the solid waste of the Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts. Later the waste was dumped in Okharpauwa, Nuwakot. Then after, Nepali government at the 50th annual day of UN had decided to build UN Park in memory of Nepal Armies who had received martyrdom in the UN peacekeeping mission in 2006.

On May 30, Clean Up and Plantation program at UN Park was organized by Eco-friendly behavior group from Global Power Shift (GPS) Nepal program under the theme ? Think Future, Start With Future, determination is the Key to Success? at UN Park. Here, future indicates the students for whom and with whom the program proceeded. It was practical session to aware student about the importance of Green plantation and eco behavior that we can adopt in community and individual level for Clean and green Nepal.

165 Students of Kavya School and Pacific School from Grade 6 to 8 participated on the clean up and plantation program. Firstly students were divided into two groups for cleanup of the area and Plantation. The clean up group started picking up the waste that was scattered on the ground. Among the plantation group, Student were allocated the responsibility of Planting and Fetching water to the plant. About 70 tress of 4 different species were planted. Both groups enthusiastically showed their keen interest and executed the responsibility very effectively.

Every student and Power shifters from GPS were satisfied with the activity. Each Group gave name to the plant they planted. The pledged to take care of it and monitor it every week on Saturday.Students this commitment made us feel that our objective of Shifting and awaking  the Eco behavior within them is fruitful.

So,On June 5 at 7:00 am on the World Environment Day, the follow up program was organized. The students and Power Shifters monitored and fetch water to the respective plants. It was overwhelming how every student participated and mentor and Power Shifters from GPS Nepal supported the program for its successful knowledge shift and Power shift for Eco Behavior practice and Environmental Conservation Knowledge to Students. It was great day to me to start the celebrating the WED 2014.

Thank you very much for sharing this report Abhishek. This is indeed a inspiring work done by the Youth (Power shifter) and children of schools.Power shifter have sown seed of environment conservation from early age that's really commendable. For me the best part is the follow up of their work. Hope they will continue to look after the plants they have planted.
