Unnatural phenomenon seen in abandoned city

This year when I went for my summer vacations to India, I visited a small abandoned city called Dhanushkodi. We decided to go to Dhanushkodi as a part of our visit to Rameshwaram and expecting a crowded place, are taken aback by the exceptionally bumpy ride by a bus which made us ride through the shallow waves, part of the sea to this island, which enchanted us with its beautiful views of the two oceans namely the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean, but at the same time left an eerie feeling with its emptiness and a view of the ruins that gave us the impression that this has been a different place before.

This deserted island is occupied by hutments of fisherfolk who seem to live in isolation and with no connection other than buses and jeeps to the mainland and their main means of survival seems to depend on the fish they catch from the sea. With no basic facilities to depend on, we came across an interesting way in which women from these communities get their drinking water and wonder if this is the place where reality coexists/mingles with myths, mysteries and miracles turning it into a seemingly unique location.

Even though this is a coastal area in very close proximity to the sea, we found that there was potable freshwater the sandy beach flanked on both sides by the two oceans

We wondered about the drinking water availability in the villages and saw two women who showed us a sandy place, which lied bordered between the two oceans on the two sides. The women told us that all from the villages come here to get water. We saw and wondered while the women started digging in the sand with their bare hands to make a pit, and found potable freshwater in the pits!

I helped the ladies withdraw water from the newly dug well and put it into their pots to help them, and to experience their routine. It was a good experience as in the current society, we always want everything treated, purified, withed added minerals, ionized, etc. But sometimes, we should take a step back and observe how the people from other cultures acclimatize themselves to their surroundings and grow through being hardy and rough.

We were really surprised at this amazing phenomenon which relates with an ancient Hindu myth of how a queen felt very thirsty and her husband sprouted freshwater from the ground to quench her thirst.

This town used to be very busy and really crowded until a punishment befell on the townfolk. In 1964, a huge cyclone hit this peaceful  city and everything was smashed to rubble. We should remember that our actions are the cause of our misery and such peace and tranquility can at times, also unleash such fury and destruction, but then, time goes on and heals all wounds!

Nice words Rohan. It is surely unexpected however I wonder since they have basic life supporting system are there any cases of people resettling to this place?
