Call for Participation 
We have the pleasure to inform you that World Youth Foundation (?an NGO in Special 
Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations?), in 
collaboration with Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia, United Nations Inter-Agency Project on 
Human Trafficking (UNIAP), Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO, Pembangunan 
Pertanian Melaka Sdn Bhd and various other agencies. The International Conference on Trafficking 
of Young Women and Children is scheduled to be held on 3
rd – 7th September 2013 at Ramada 
Plaza Melaka, Malaysia. 
World Youth Foundation is based in Melaka, Malaysia and is headed by Hon Datuk Seri Mohd 
Ali Rustam, Chairman of World Youth Foundation and is assisted by a Board of Trustees. The 
aim of the Foundation is to promote research, development and documentation of youth 
programmes beneficial to youth worldwide. 
The International Conference on Trafficking of Young Women and Children will provide an 
opportuniy for young people to discuss, understand, share, find solutions and develop strategies
on issues pertaining to young women and human trafficking that can be implemented at country 
level. 
The International Conference on Trafficking of Young Women and Children will provide young 
people, especially youth to be directly involved with MDG 3 – promote gender equality and 
empower women. Recognizing that youth participation is fundamental for accelerating the 
progress of MDGs and the post-2015 agenda youth engagement throughout the International 
Conference will be enhanced to ensure that their views and contributions are acknowledged and 
strengthened. 
The International Conference on Trafficking of Young Women and Children will also take into 
consideration the outcome of the Rio +20 declaration ?The Future We Want? among others:- 
Gender Equality and the empowerment of women i.e. prioritizing measures to promote gender 
equality and the empowerment of women in all spheres has been identified as a vital role. 2

The five-day International Conference will operate primarily in an interactive mode. During the 
five days International Conference key issues relating to Trafficking of Young Women and 
Children will be presented by local and foreign speakers in the form of interactive lectures, case 
studies, video documentaries, skills sharing workshops, utilizing multi-media and informal 
discussions through active participation among participants. On the last day of the International 
Conference participants will formulate a Youth Action Plan and a Follow up Plan for Change 
?Youth Initiative to Change? in collaboration with UNIAP and related stakeholders. 
The objectives of this International Conference are: 
• To prevent and combat human trafficking by promoting the ratification and implementation 
of the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons especially Women 
and Children (Trafficking in Persons Protocol) 
• To strengthen the institutional and human capacities of the criminal justice systems
• To improving mechanisms for the appropriate identification referral, support, and protection 
of trafficked victims 
• To raise awareness about the crime and its devastating consequences on young people and 
societies at large scale and exchange of good practices 
• To study the causes and consequences of human trafficking and to encourage policy at local 
and national levels that will contribute to reducing human trafficking and abuse 
• To educate and empower youth about issues on human trafficking and to serve as a resource 
by providing valuable information about other initiatives working to address human 
trafficking 
• To build a platform of knowledge at an international level.

• The Link between Pornography and Sex Trafficking 
• Economics of Human Trafficking 
• Sex Crime Against Young Women and Children –Strengthening current laws 
• Educating Young People to Protect Them from Human Trafficking 
• Creating Awareness about Human Trafficking, How & Why?? 
• Law Enforcement on Human Trafficking in Malaysian Context, What & How? 
• Mental Health Assistance of Human Trafficking Victims, What & How? 
• Use of Technology on Combating Child Trafficking: Opportunities and Challenges 
• Using Art to Create Awareness about Human Trafficking 
Application Criteria: 
• Young people between the ages of 18 – 30 (however some flexibility will be exercised as 
the definition of youth varies from country to country). 
• Youth representatives from the various national youth organizations, institutions of higher 
learning, civil society organizations. 3

• Scholars with an interest in providing knowledge and methodologies to study the problems 
surrounding human trafficking. 
• Mental health officials who deal in post-traumatic stress disorders or crisis intervention or 
counseling fields. 
• Human/social development field officials who deal with assisting victims of human 
trafficking. 
• Law enforcement agencies, social service agencies. 
• Officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia or a related government agency. 
• Have a good understanding of the theme and the relevant policies in their respective 
countries. 
• Proficient in English and able to do presentations in English, is a must.
• Possess good communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to solve problems 
through adaptability and flexibility. 
• Motivated to improve the lives of others through their actions and work. 
• Capable and willing to share experiences and resources with others in the community and 
contribute to the ?Trafficking of Young Women and Children? follow-up process. 
• Willing and being able to participate actively for the whole duration of the project 
• Geographical and gender balance will be respected.

International Students Staying in Malaysia - RM 550.00 
Local Group Application for 5 or more - RM 500.00 each 
International Participants - USD 250.00 each 
International Group Application for 5 or more - USD 230.00 each

Pre-conference Preparation: 
Successful applicants will be expected to collect and bring to the Conference key information about 
their local context and issues pertaining to Human Trafficking. This will be utilized in the 
Conference and will help to develop do-able regional or local collaborative project proposals that 
can be followed up after completion of the Conference. 4

Air Travel Subsidy: 
The Foundation regrets to inform you that there are no funds available for air travel subsidy. 
Hence participants are required to fund their own air-travel. The Foundation will provide 
accommodation, meals and local hospitality for the duration of the Conference. 
Application Submission:
The deadline for application is 15th August 2013. Email submissions are preferred. If 
email is not an option, please fax to World Youth Foundation (Fax No: +606-2323911) or mail to 
World Youth Foundation at P.O. Box 584, 75760 Melaka, Malaysia. Early applications are 
encouraged to ensure the timely processing of travel documents and arrangements. 
Application Procedure: 
Step 1 Download Application Form. 
Step 2 Send in application via email, fax or post (with a scan copy of the front page of your 
passport).
Step 3 Wait for the confirmation letter. 
Step 4 Pay the registration fees and email your payment confirmation 
Step 5 Confirm your flight details and fill up the Confirmation of Acceptance 
Upon receiving of the application forms a Selection Committee will review all the applications and 
select the most deserving participant. A letter of confirmation will then be sent to successful 
participants with the necessary information. You can use this letter to apply your visa. The 
Selection Committee?s decision is final and no correspondence will be entertained.
