The programme creates an opportunity for aspiring environmentalists to attend a study trip in Germany, at which they share ideas and exchange experiences with youth from over 20 countries. The week-long study trip to Germany takes place from 10 to 15 November 2013, plus R5 000 awarded towards the winners' environmental projects. 

With the competition, Bayer wishes to create environmental awareness among the youth and encourage them to take ownership and protect the environment within their communities. Through the BYEE programme, Bayer provides a platform for South Africa's youth to take part in a global initiative that forms an integral part of Bayer's sustainable development !==!==!--object--====ives. 

We invite the youth between the ages of 18 and 24 years who are actively involved in environmental activities, to submit a summary of their projects in English, describing how the project has or is addressing any environmental challenges for example:sustainable agriculture water conservation litter and waste management energy efficiency and climate change or any other related area of environmental preservation. 

An application form must be submitted together with a 1000 word project summary. Application forms are available on www.byee.bayer.com and at Bayer offices on 27 Wrench Road, Isando. Entries can be emailed to zabyee@bayer.com or posted to Bayer Corporate Communications, PO Box 143, Isando 1600. The closing date for entries is 31 July 2013. 

The BYEE Programme/competition 

The Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Programme was launched in Asia in 1998 and is one of the key elements of the Bayer-UNEP Partnership. The programme focuses primarily on the world's fast-growing emerging economies. Originally introduced in Thailand, the concept was subsequently extended to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Venezuela and Vietnam. 

The study trip gives young people an opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the principles and application of modern environmental protection in Germany. When the Environmental Envoys return home, they are able to raise awareness of sustainable development in their own societies by passing on the impressions, experience and insights they have gained. Many former participants in this Bayer initiative now have jobs where they play a key role in environmental protection in their home countries.

Bayer-UNEP Partnership 

Bayer is the first company in the world to enter a long-term partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in the area of youth and the environment. This cooperation focuses on children and young people from all over the world who are interested in environmental issues and committed to protecting the world around them. The partners' joint aim is to support young people in their commitment to the environment, to expand their knowledge of the environment and to foster the global exchange of experience by building up networks. For this purpose, Bayer and UNEP organise a dozen environmental projects for children and young people around the world every year. So far, more than two million young people have participated in these projects and thus benefited directly from this unique partnership.
