INFORMATION ABOUT THE AWARDS

As part of the dissemination of information and promotion of AfriCAN Climate, the project supports awards in recognition of excellence: the AfriCAN Climate Awards.

  1. Awareness raising about climate change and its impacts, with a focus on Africa. This can include: awareness raising campaigns, including tools used targeted environmental education social media initiatives works of art (including visual arts, performing arts, music, films, etc.).
    CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD: scale/extent of the initiative (number of followers, geographical scope, etc.) impact on policy development and decision making impacts on communities artistic quality (if applicable).
  2. Good practices – to be aligned with the 8 Good Practice Principles of AfriCAN Climate Project. This includes climate change mitigation and adaptation projects implemented in Africa.
    CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD: inclusiveness and capacity building, innovation, transferability and sustainability.
  3. Scientific research about climate change adaptation and mitigation, with relevance for Africa. This includes research projects and scientific publications.
    CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD: scientific quality impact on policy and project development.

WHERE WILL THE AWARDS BE PRESENTED?

Winners receive the AfriCAN Climate Awards at dedicated ceremonies organised:

  1. In Dakar, Senegal for the Awareness Raising Award
    Partner responsible: ENDA
  2. In Kenya for the Good Practice Award
    Partner responsible: ICRAF
  3. In South Africa for the Research Award
    Partner responsible: WITS

Nomination Procedures

Only registered members of the AfriCAN Climate platform can present nominations

Nominees can be individuals or organizations including NGOs and community-based organisations that implemented projects or initiated actions/practices related to the theme of the award.
Organisations and individuals can nominate themselves and nominations can also be presented jointly by more than one member of the AfriCAN Climate project.
Nominees do not need to be registered on the AfriCAN Climate platform.Candidates can be based in Africa or in Europe, but the initiative, project or research in question must be a current and ongoing project in Africa.

 

Nominations must include:

  • A short de!--script--ion (a maximum of 2 pages) of the project/activity/initiative, with supporting evidence (up to 20 pages) highlighting the main achievements in relation to the criteria listed in the award.
  • A CV (curriculum vitae) of the candidate (2 pages) or of a representative of the candidate with a letter of motivation as well as the names of two independent referees.

Nominations can be made in either English or French. Nominations should be submitted electronically to the project coordinator WIP (Silvia.Cazzetta@wip-munich.de) before the deadline for each of the calls.

 

Selection Procedures

The AfriCAN Climate Editorial Board shall prepare a shortlist of 3 candidates.

The winners will be decided upon by members of the Editorial board, based entirely on the submissions made and letter of reference received. The coordinator (WIP) will call for the letters of reference in confidence from the referees names provided in each nomination.

 

The AWARD

The winner shall receive an honorary certificate in recognition of their work at each of the award ceremonies. Winners shall be invited to join the events organised by AfriCAN Climate in combination with the relevant award ceremony.

AfriCAN Climate will provide financial support (economy airfare/ground transportation and accommodation) for the winner to attend the award ceremony.
