The most influential conservation event held every four years by IUCN, the only international environment union with Permanent Official Observer Status at the UN General Assembly There have been 22 gatherings since the congress started as IUCN General Assembly in 1948. The event changed its title to the current one in the 1996 Montreal Congress, and the 2012 Jeju Congress is the 4th of its kind.
