COVID-19 Pandemic is impacting the health, economy and society of Nepal like no other. This has exposed cracks in governance and public policy system in Nepal. The pandemic has also exposed the limits of conventional science and academic disciplines of knowledge. While decision makers from household through the community to the government are facing tough questions as to how this pandemic can be managed, Nepal’s academic community also struggles to make sense of the crisis. Despite high expectations from the society, the research and academic community has made limited contribution. Across the world, a number of academic community groups have started serious rethinking about their own work in the time of this pandemic. They are also asking questions about how they can better contribute to understanding and responding to the pandemic. Academic community needs to help the society in this critical moment. In this context, NIMS College has decided to convene an advanced interdisciplinary group on Pandemic and Society to foster knowledge and build our societal capability to fight and recover from the pandemic.
