WILDLIFE TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG GRADUATES IN NEPAL

Friends of Nature (FON) Nepal is pleased to announce training opportunity for young Nepali graduates (sixth batch) who want to pursue their future career in wildlife research and conservation. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and proactive graduates/students for the training. The training will help you update yourself on the contemporary techniques and methods of wildlife research and management through theoretical classes and 'in situ' field work. This program is financially supported by Bernd Thies Foundation.

TRAINING LOCATION:

• 6 days tutorial (Kathmandu) and

• 13 days 'in situ' field work (venue will be finalized later)

DURATION: 27 October 2017 – 14 November 2017 (10-28 Kartik 2074)

TOPICS:

• Policies, acts, regulations, research needs and research priorities of wildlife management, and conservation sector

• Research and identification techniques of mammals, insects (butterfly), birds, and herpetofauna

• Camera trapping, transect survey

• Ethno-zoological survey, wildlife photography

• Overview on special researches (snow leopard, clouded leopard, tiger, wolf, owl, wildlife hunting and poaching, hyaena)

• Introduction to GIS operations

REQUIREMENTS:

Academic: Bachelor/Master degree completed or students at any stage from Forestry, Zoology, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Rural Development, Natural Resource Management, Mass Communication, and Veterinary Science.

LANGUAGE: Fluent in speaking and writing Nepali and English

EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES: Must have a pair of trekking/hiking shoes, a laptop and a binocular (8*40, 8*50, 10*40 10*50 or equivalent). We will return trainees without proper equipment.

EXPERIENCE: No experience needed

COMMITMENT:

• The trainee must be able to work in a group, in harsh environments, and at any time and place.

• The trainee must work as an intern for six months at FON and design a wildlife related project/proposal in collaboration with FON Nepal after the training. They will independently run the project they develop.

• The trainee should not have problem staying in remote villages during the field work.

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS:

• Total trainees needed: 10 (Ten)

FEES, ACCOMMODATION, AND EQUIPMENT:

• Registration fee NPR 3,000 in total

• Lodging and fooding for the trainees during field work will be managed by FON Nepal. Separate applications have to be submitted later if selected trainees require lodging and fooding (dinner) support during theoretical classes in Kathmandu.

• The basic resource books and equipment (camera traps, spotting scope etc) will be provided by FON Nepal during and only for the training.

• Application (cover letter, one-page maximum). The cover letter should include the contact email and telephone number (s) of the applicant.

• Letter of motivation (500 words maximum with your interest and future plan).

• Resume/Curriculum vitae (two pages maximum). Include your recent passport size photograph.

• Recommendation letter from a referee from the conservation field (one-page maximum) or from previous trainees (See their name at http://fonnepal.org/internvolunteer) including their contact number.

• Incomplete applications will not be processed.

• FON Nepal is a non-profit making organization. No single telephone call, email and personal visits will be entertained in regard to the selection process of the trainees.

• FON Nepal reserves the authority to ignore your application and to remove you from the training if any false information has been provided during the application process.
