National Rice Day

Nepal government has declared 15 of Ashad as "National Rice Day" to encourage farmer and celebrate the crop planting. Nepal has been celebrating this day since 2005 A.D. The objective of marking national rice day is to increase the productivity in context of growing dependency on import of food crops each year.
   Nepal is agricultural country rice is the most important crop in Nepal and accounts for about 50 percent of the total agricultural area and production in the country. Rice contributes approximately one-fourth of GDP and more than 75 percent of the working population is engaged in rice farming. But, more then 31 billion worth of rice was imported last year and this trend is increasing every year. What does this mean to economy and agriculture of country?
