Landslides, particularly during monsoon season, pose a significant threat to Nepal's ecosystems and can have devastating effects on the environment, communities, and infrastructures. In 2024 from 26 to 28 September, Nepal faced devastating landslides in different comer of Nepal even more than like those in previous years. Koshi bridge , all 56 gates were opened this year after a long time due to heavy flooding and landslides around those area. Nepal faced several impacts on ecosystems due to this post monsoon heavy rainfall throughout the country. One of the major impact is soil erosion(loss of top soil) which degraded the vegetative growth of crops as well as making it harder to thrive and affecting agricultural productivity. Second is destruction of forest sites, which caused many roads to get blocked by sudden landslides and more than 148 people also died till now from this incident. Other important impact is water quality disruption as high sedimentation, increased turbidity, harm aquatic life and disrupts local water supplies for communities. There is also high displacement of people, loss of property , and damage to infrastructure can hinder local economics. As Nepal is been facing landslides in every monsoon and year by year its intensity is been increasing with high rate , its high time for Nepal to acquire comprehensive disaster risk management strategies, including reforestation, sustainable land use planning, and community preparedness programs. It is essential for government and local communities to work together to address these challenges and protect the ecosystem of Nepal in coming years.
