Four Ways to Make Your Home Eco-Friendly

by Carol Evenson | 16-10-2020 13:01 recommendations 0

If you want to do your part to help the Earth's environment, you might not know where to start first, as there are many options for you. Thankfully, there are many simple changes you can make in your daily life that will build towards this goal, and you can start right away. This article will focus specifically on the changes you can make regarding your home. These four tips can add up to decreasing the negative impact your home will leave on the environment, and will guide you into a greener, healthier lifestyle.

1. Changing Your Water System and Water Usage Habits

The amount of water you use throughout your home can not only weigh heavily on your water bill, it can use up great amounts of energy. There are many simple ways you can alleviate this issue by making some changes to your water usage. Firstly, you could change to a more energy efficient water heating system, which you can do by looking at the water heater companies in your area. For instance, if you live in California, all it will take is a simple search for a water heater company in Sun Valley and you will be on your way.

Outside of changing your water heating system to be more fuel efficient, simply changing how much water you use is a great step to conserving water and energy. Take shorter showers, only run your washing machine and dishwasher when they are full, and keep an eye on how often you use sink faucets. These small changes alone can add up, and you can start making these changes right away for the better, which you will notice in your lighter water and power bills.

2. Changing Your HVAC System and its Usage

Much of your power usage comes from your HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system. Ensure that your system is up to date and does not waste energy. In addition, by reducing how often you use the heat or air conditioning as well as how strongly you keep them set, you will lighten the load on your power bill and decrease your energy usage. When you are not home, turn off the heating or air conditioning, and when you are home, lower them a little bit. Making a difference sometimes requires sacrificing a little bit of comfort, but you will find the results to be worth the small inconvenience.

3. Saving Energy

In the same manner of the previous entry, making some small changes to your energy usage makes a big difference. Use energy-saving lightbulbs, open the curtains or blinds on your windows to increase light and heat throughout your home, and unplug any electronics you are not using such as phone chargers and TVs in standby mode. By minimizing how often you use these energy vacuums in your home, you will notice a huge difference on your power consumption. These are small and simple changes that go a long way and will hardly affect your daily life at all.

4. Reusing and Recycling

Do you buy many plastic water bottles? Cut down significantly on your plastic usage by replacing these with a reusable water cup. By getting a filtered water pitcher and a reusable stainless steel drinking vessel, you can drink water throughout the day that both tastes great and also does not contribute any more plastic pollution to the world. Along the same lines, by repurposing any boxes, bags, containers, or any other objects you may be accustomed to throwing out right away, you will cut down on the waste you output in addition to giving yourself handy new tools to use around the house. Recycle cans, cardboard, and plastic as well to make a greener difference to your daily chores.

These four simple adjustments can make a big difference. By incorporating these small changes in your daily life, you can rest easily knowing you are doing your part to save the environment.
